What's the used market currently on X-500's and X-170/80's?

I won't be looking to do much until late 2013 but I was curious as to what the current used market is on X-500's and X-170/80's? General range?

Depending on what the market is, I might get a guitar in pretty decent shape that maybe needs just a little love as opposed to getting one that is a complete rebuild.

Thanks!

X-170s are going from $1000-1400.
Awesome. Is that decent to mint condition-wise?
Yes. I think, because of the type of guitar and their relative age, you won't find many bad ones. Fret wear will probably be the most common issue to address. (I had mine refretted after I got it.)
There's one over on TGP for $1000 that has swapped pups and knobs. The originals are included, so it's restoreable, instead of the Gretsch he's tried to make. (no connection with seller.)

There's plenty available to wait for the right one at the right price.

For what it's worth, a search on Gbase shows a couple of X-500's, a '92 for $2950 and a '93 for $2699. Ebay has an early '70s, seller trying for $2500. And a '92 blonde X-500 just sold here in Toronto with a list price of $2900. Not that I watch these things...

I sold a 1984 X-500 in an Ebay auction earlier in 2012 for around $2400, and it was in excellent condition with its OHSC in like condition.

I also sold a mint blonde X-170 about 2 years ago for $1285, and a mint Tennessee Orange X-170T with the original pups and custom pups in 2012 for somewhere around that same price (I forget the exact figure). Both were Ebay auctions to the best of my recollection and both had near-mint OHSC's.

I concur with everyone else - in the short time that I've been paying attention, X-500 equipped with HB1 pickups sell for anywhere from $2200 at the low end to a cool $3000 at the high end. You'd think that the range would be based on condition, but it's not all that consistent. Sometimes the right buyer finds the right instrument and desire wins out over money sense.

For the record, I paid $2450 shipped for my Black 79 in 9/10 condition and $2700 including tax (comes out to about $2475 before tax) for my white 88 in 7/10 condition. Now the challenge is to get the white guitar back up to the 9/10 range.

This came up here 12/30, offered at $1790. Seattle market's a pretty fair barometer, you never know the final price but agressively priced Guilds routinely hang unsold.

That is lovely and thanks for the heads up. I won't be in a position to do anything until later this year. I am just trying to get a feel for the market.

I am torn between building up a Guild or custom ordering a guitar. In the end, they'd end up costing me about the same.

I just sold one of those not too many months ago. It was in mint condition (guitar and case) and came with not only the original pups, but also with a set of custom pups that were designed to fit with no mods of any kind and give a Franz tone in SC mode. Unfortunately, it did not go for anywhere near $1790. As for the rarity of this color, we have discussed this out here in the past (unsure of the thread) and the TO seems to be the most commonly found finish. This one looks very nice either way, and I wish I still had the one I sold!

Edit: I just noticed that there is no coil tap switch, so I incorrectly assumed this was a X-170T. As for this guitars rarity, that may make the finish much less common, but the model itself is very easy to find. I am interested to see how long it takes to sell, and at what price it goes for.
