I think you might know this and were just playing for the joke, but just in case: Horns are keratin (hair) protein, not hard like bone. Might work but for sure it'd wear out faster. ;)
On the other hand, it should be good for plectrums (picks). I was given a buffalo horn plectrum as a freebie with some mandolin strings and it's excellent. Only problem is that it's transparent and almost colourless, I often struggle to find it when I put it down! :ROFLMAO:

Cow horn's a lot harder, probably has some (more?) calcium mixed in. But yes it's harder. Occurs to me the difference may be that shed horns are softer due to little/no calcium content. It burns, too.

One of my fav winter live webcams. Some of the biggest elk herds in the US come down from Yellowstone to the Nat Elk Refuge just on the outskirts of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Love putting on the big TV in hi def. Like having a picture window into the wild. 👍🏻😎

I’ve seen all sorts of things watching this live stream…like watching a pack of wolves attempt to distract and split up some elk that were surrounding and protecting a calf. Nature at it’s best…and most cruel, all in one of the most picturesque surroundings imaginable. (I spent 2 weeks solo hiking all through the Tetons a few years ago (in early Nov). An amazing experience!

(My fav summer live stream is watching the Grizzly Bears (by the dozen!) snatching salmon mid air at Brooks Falls Alaska.)
