I have obtained a Vintage Blond 63' Guild Duane Eddy DE-500 (White Dearmond pickups) through an estate sale. The label inside the guitar says that it is a DE-500 yet the fretboard seems to be Rosewood. I thought that the DE-500's fret boards' only came in Ebony? Any clarification would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello Jimi,

Welcome! I've already sent you an email after your initial inquiry through my website. Here it is again:

At this point I'm not 100% sure what's going on with the guitar you've purchased, but it sounds like you have one of the converted S-300 or T-500 models, that were lying around in the factory at the time that the production of the Duane Eddy model was started.

Nothing to worry about; if that is what you have, then you have a legitimate Guild guitar with a history.
By the way, with that serial number it would make it an instrument from 1962.

Just go ahead and email me some photos of the guitar in question. Try to include some detail shots of the back of the peghead and the label.

You can email photos directly to: guitarchives@wxs.nl

I will take a look at the photos and tell you what I think that the story is.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
