Hey everyone,
Don't know if this has made it on the forum yet, saw this clip and thought I'd share it. I'm a big fan of Dean Martin and I was listening to some music and came across this clip from Oceans 11 in 1960. Was happy to see Jimmy Wyble playing a Guild X-550 with Red Norvo on vibes. Enjoy...

Great clip! They used to always play Oceans 11 on late night tv on NYE. Lol...the Guild was probably always cut off on TV in the old days to keep Dean-o in the frame!

Looked like he was trying to play the harmony line for the melody and the backing lines, which a little harmony thrown in.
Makes sense given the presence of a pianist. Although the sound of the rhythm section seemed really quiet. at times I couldn't hear it at all.

He certainly remembered to turn the guitar up for his little solo part which made me think it was recorded live but I think they were playing live to a track?

What's a Guild X550 and why do I now want one?

I agree he's just kind of subtly accompanying Red Norvo. I'm thinking live to track as well.
I just got a 1959 X-550 and have become obsessed with it lol. It's just how they identified a blonde X-500 before 1960.

Ok makes sense now. I thought it was a 500 type.
I bet you are happy with it. I can imagine it being a lovely axe.
