Hey Guys.....

I have a 1977 Guild D-25M (spruce top-very tight grain), in very good shape, sounds good, 3/32" at the 12 fret for the low and high E, and good saddle left...(in otherwords, does NOT need a neck reset) This is the archback version, a few dings here and there but in great shape. I'm considering to either trade it or sell in in the N. California area. Trades would include for smaller body Guilds. I'm not interested in selling or trading where I need to ship and insure, etc. Want you guys to try the guitar in person. Let me know please, what you think the value is. I thought I'd ask the Guild forum before proceeding as you guys are the most knowledgeable....thanks....Wily

Here is one locally for $800, is that a real price???

I don't think $800 is out of the question, but it's towards the high end of the range for a D-25, IMO. I'd say the eBay selling price would be from $500-$700. D

In the last two years, I've seen them go from about $300 to over $1200, depending on condition and the market at the time. Recently, the typical prices range from about $450 to $750. The average price of *completed* listings for D25's on ebay is $535 for the last two weeks or so. This is for guitars that were not being sold as projects. I would say $800 is probably the upper end of the market for one in excellent plus condition.

They made a ton of D-25s. To fetch $800, you'd have to have a pretty pristine guitar, IMHO.

Your opinion is well-founded, and that figure is entirely within the realm of possibility.
The older ones are, quite simply, superb guitars and well worth the $800 one might "fetch" for the seller.
Just ask anyone who has paid that much and you'll see.

Cheers,
Joe

Half way between San Francisco and San Jose....

Vicinity of Redwood City, then? I lived in the bay area years ago, and after that I worked for a company based in Cupertino and spent a lot of time in the valley.

Recently completed sales on eBay averaged $500, but some of them were in pretty poor condition. Retail sellers are asking in the neighborhood of $700 - $900. I bought a '91 D25NT a couple of months ago from a local shop for $700, in excellent condition.

Yep, near RC.....where are you now? It sounds like around $700 might be a good place to start price wise. Thanks for all the feedback guys....

I lived in Vallejo and Novato (northern Marin county) in 1979-80. I'm in Phoenix now, but I've been all over since I lived in the Bay area. I really like my D25, BTW - good luck!

From what I have seen, the D25M is a much desired guitar. But the final sale prices I have seen have been in the $400-$600 range. For it to bring $800, it would need to be as-new, and maybe a cherry color instead of the more common "mahogany" stained color...The natural tops might be more desirable, I can't say...but personally, I like the cherry red.

My 1977 D25M is the "sh!t brownish red mahogany" color, and not in as-new shape by any means...but it DOES sound as nice to my ears as any $2500 acoustic I have played at shops. I think it sounds better, honestly. I can say without any hint of a lie that I will never, ever sell it. It'll go in the grave with me.

The past couple days I've look on ebay and seen D-25s listed around $600 with no takers.
