I have been gradually bringing back to service a D40c built in 1979. You can now play the guitar and it sounds very good. It does not produce the volume of my much newer BG-Jubilee, but the sound is much more mature and full.

The tuning machines still function but some knobs are a bit rough to turn and sometimes they slip. Assuming that I can't find a replacement set ,of the same type, in good condition, what tuners would you recomend as a replacement? This guitar will most likely stay home or possibly go with me to a friends to play in an informal setting (no gigs). I'm hoping to use it as a songwriting tool.

Thanks

Do you have the Gotoh sets on your one currently? The souce I knew (Ken Nash) is out of stock on them. I'm sure others here have some ideas on suitable replacement options.

I replaced the Gotohs on a 1978 G-37 with a set of Grovers, no drilling or reaming required.

With a healthy dose of patients and a few drops of "3 in 1", I was able to get the old machines to work like new. Thanks for your help.
