i've seen some truss rod cover plates on eBay with designs engraved/paited on them.
they say they are for D-55s.
anyone know if these will fit on a Tacoma D-50BS?
thanks

Bluepen,

The D-55 and D-50 have different faceplates. But, I'll bet the truss rod cover has the same position and holes. You could check the spacing of the holes on your D-50 with a micrometer and ask the seller.

I've bought replacement truss rod covers from this seller, namely the oversize badge style for Guild 12-strings with the double truss rods.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Truss-Rod-Cover-3pl ... 0498444682

They're very good quality (three-ply -- more rigid / more decorative than original).

One of my Hoboken 12-strings needed a larger-than-normal truss rod cover, since the truss rods on some of the earlier 12-strings are slightly farther apart than on the Westerly, RI, versions.

The seller made the truss rod cover to my specific measurements and sold it to me at the regular 10 buck cost, with free shipping. Can't do much better than that!

If you have the damaged cover, or can get someone to make a tracing of the one you need, I bet he'd make it to your specs.

Good luck!

Glenn//.

Gary,

Thanks for posting Bill's Link.

I've been cogitating a stylized 57 Chev logo truss rod cover for my F20.

Substitute "Troubador" for Belair. Gold, matching the headstock decal, on black would be good, I think.

Glenn,

I have been looking for a truss rod cover for my 65 F212 and I was wondering what specs you gave to the seller? Does the one he sells for the F512 not fit your Hobokin?

Hello Jon,

In my experience, the Hoboken 12-string truss rod covers may vary a little from guitar to guitar. Some are slightly rounded on the pointy end, next to the nut, so they'll clear the tuner ferrules. Some aren't.

The ones this eBay seller makes are all Westerly-era size.

So for my Hoboken 12-string F-212 I had him make one 1/8" larger all around, and I asked him NOT to drill the screw holes for it.

I had already replaced those miserable Guild six-on-a-plank tuners with Grovers. But the Grover ferrules are larger than what Guild put on them, and though the 1/8" bigger replacement covered the dual truss rod slots just fine, it butted up against the ferrules and thus wouldn't lie flat.

Rather than sanding the pointy end, as Guild sometimes did, I simply faced the truss rod cover the other way, with the pointy end toward the logo, away from the nut. Voila! Works just fine, no sanding necessary!

Once I'd positioned it properly, I measured and drilled my own screw holes to match those on the guitar.

This guy does really nice work, IMHO. When you write him, mention my name and the fact that you're getting one made like mine, 1/8" larger all around than his standard size. He'll remember the job I'm sure.

Good luck!

Oooooh, Up-side-down truss rod covers are like finger nails on a chalk board to some folks around here.

Hehe... I did the same thing on my '71 F-50R. The ferrules that I got from Grover on a new set of Rotomatics that I put on that guitar were indeed bigger diameter than the originals.

Sooooooooooooooo...how much are we talking for one of those Nichols custom plates?
Ball-park figure?

I had Bill do a custom TRC for my Goodall - ebony with my name inlaid in Paua Abalone, finished with gloss lacquer. If memory serves, the price three years ago was right around $80.00.
