Always wanted to try a Gries amp. Either his 35 with 6L6s or the 20 with 6v6s. Finally found one. It looks like this (not my amp), with a different faceplate, as mine is one of the first ones made:

A most interesting amp. You could think of it as a one channel take on the blackface deluxe reverb, with some significant differences. Not quite the same at all. A deeper cab than the fender, speaker offset in the cab. It seems signficantly louder than the DRs I've owned. In part due to the very efficient Emi Tonker speaker it shipped with. But it's not just the speaker. A more adjustable tone stack. You can dial in quite a bit of bass for example, something that doesn't work well with a DR. Most noticeable difference right off is the reverb. This is really good, better I think than any other in amp reverb I've heard. Lush, beautiful reverb tone. Plus a Master Volume, such a useful little device.

Spent the morning trying out tubes. NOS stuff is making a very noticeable difference, so much more resonant and sweet sounding than with the stock EH rectifier and 6v6s, all GT preamp. I have a Celestion creamback speaker on the way. Not as efficient, but there's volume to spare in this amp.

I'm gonna be in a 12 step amp program if I keep this up.

Nice amp, of course for it to be official we need to see pix of your actual amp. Sounds nice though. I really like the Tonker - I've got a 2x12 Hiwatt-style loaded with 'em.
