April 10 1963, exactly fifty years ago to this day, the nuclear powered submarine Thresher SS(N)-593 was on a deep test dive when she ran in to trouble, exceeded her crush depth, and disintegrated along with 129 brave souls. She rests today scattered on the ocean floor at 8500 feet, 220 miles off Cape Cod. Here's the story: http://news.yahoo.com/us-sub-sinking-50-years-ago-led-safety-063033693.html

Had a buddy that served on her. While in port he ended up in the hospital and she sailed and sank. Funny how fate works sometimes.

Bless their souls. They died during the height of the Cold War. Hey, you should write a song about it.

You couldn't PUT me on a submarine. They tried to talk me into sub duty; NO way, no how. I was on an aircraft carrier - big, wide open, on top of the water.
