Exactly, just like Hans' picture at the top of this thread. A G-shield just waiting to be uncovered! :)

:D :D It seems I just have to wait a few minutes before hitting the submit key to see my words come out under Ralf's name. :)

Lookit this - interesting that the United Code Company made these guitars under the Stewart and Premier guitar name, but they look like Guild Aristocrats from the same era. UCC apparently made them under the Chimes name too, and maybe Orpheum?

anyhow there's a Chimes version on eBay right now:

and one that just sold with the logo popped off:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Late-1950s-Stew ... 196wt_1170

So I guess if you still want a Franz-equipped hollowbody with no F-holes that is LP shaped from the 50s and don't want to pay 6k for a Guild, there are options, who knew. It would be super cool to see an Orpheum branded one of these!

Wow! What a captivating story. It's like a hidden doorway on a guitar. What a charming, lovely story.

1940's Orpheum Archtop

I just received an Orpheum Maple Archtop I bought on EBay today
It's a gorgeous Maple bodied mahogany neck Guitar
With 2 original Black Franz pickups in it
It strongly resembles the 1955 Gretsch 6185
Corvette Guitar I have
The brand badge on the headstock is a round silver
Metal with the words Orpheum NY on it
No serial number, so I looked at the
Pots which were rather hard to read, but I am pretty sure it's a 1941
Can't seem to find out much history on the model

Hans, is there a good place to go on information on these Guitars?

Thanks
Norm
