Hi Darryl,

Hans' Guild book lists a non cutaway X-200 with two pickups but I've never seen one......

I'd love to get a look at your X-440.....perhaps you can post photos?
Maybe you did and I missed them?

Hello Darryl,

Actually, your X-440 should have been called an X-220 but that particular period was kind of a 'try-out' period; apparently not all of the model designations and specs had been clearly specified.

Here's a photo of an X-200, with double volume- and tone controls.

Can you tell me what's the N.Y. postal code that's printed on the label?

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Last night before posting, I went through the Moust book and completely missed the fact that the x200 was a noncutaway with two pups.

Is the tailpiece in the pic original?

Right now the 1953 X440 blond is dissassembled. I'll get pics when it's done. I have all of the parts except it needs to be rebound. Although the finish is mostly gone due to oxidization, I'm going to leave it all original.

Mine has single volume and tone. It's serial number 1004. The postal code is 5. Did you know that Coastie's beer closet has its own postal code?

Hello Darryl,

Yes, it is! See also photo of X-330 in the color section on page 65 of The Guild Guitar Book.

Yes, I've seen double pickup guitars from this period with both single- and double volume and tone controls. The postal code should be N.Y. 3 or N.Y. 7 , so I assume you didn't look very closely and the code on the label in your guitar is N.Y. 3, ......... right?

Sincerely,

Hans,

It must be a 3. My vision is lousy. It took me a long time to figure out the word "incorporated" on the label.
I also noticed that the pickguard I have is wrong. I need one of those very long ones that they used on the earliest non-cutaways.

Mojo,

What year is your X50?

It is a 1964. Just got it today, finishes unboxing it and I can't believe the condition it is in. A few little checks in the finish here and there but it really does look pristine. Frets look like new still. Haven't plugged it in yet to check out the pup, i'll get to that later. Gonna have to change the strings though and do a little setup on it. I'll try to post pics here in a bit. If this one checks out with my luthier, it'll go down as my second best Guild acquisition ever.

Hello Darryl,

Yup! It's the right one! Maybe not the exact period but that should be close enough. There are slight variations in the way the decorative lines are divided.

Congratulations on finding that one! Price was good too!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
