Check out all the Smartphones trained on Slash as he played during a four-set set by the reformed (for one night, at least) Velvet Revolver during a benefit last night.

Youtube is both a blessing and a curse for performers. It can get you noticed, which can be a good thing, and a bad thing. Said Phil X during an interview on -- you guessed it, Youtube! -- "There's so many people that have a phone or a camera ... You can't have a bad night anymore, because it could end up on Youtube the next day, and then you're f***ed."

The only cellphone use when I play is by the people calling the cops to report a public nuisance.

I said I was sorry I don't know how many times Scratch. And yes, it was a mistake to leave the eggs in the chickens and the tomatoes in the cans.

But move on man! Sheesh.

Always a friendly crowd at the weekly Open Mic where I play (Cameron's Pub & Inn, Half Moon Bay, CA). Here was the scene last night:

On stage was guitar virtuoso and Host, Kevy Nova backing our friend Bob. Bob is known to the regulars as "Dr Pure" because he NEVER hits a clam.

Great folks and any "incoming" is always edible!

not to veer back on topic, but IMO watching your stupid cell phone recording slash ruins the experience of the concert...you know...the thing you paid $400+ a seat for so you could sit right next to slash and watch him rock out, but instead you spend your time watching a 3 inch crappy video screen of the real deal and twitting to your friends about how awesome it was to watch your tiny 3 inch crappy video screen.
I'll shut up now and go make some stew with the food people throw at me. :p

*snicker*

One advantage to being a geezer, as well as the nature of the places I go as part of my normal work day, is that my cell phone does not have a camera or video capabilities.

My thoughts exactly! And the crappy low-res video becomes your memory of the event.

Well that makes 2 of us at least.
But I fail to see any risk of national security being compromised in the strip clubs around here.

Well it is a far leap from my "normal work day" to "strip clubs" even if I have the same phone in both places, if, of course, I actually were to frequent such places

Actually I have to agree that KTBM is showing wisdom beyond his years. I see a lot of folks who are so wrapped up in recording or preserving an event that they never really participate and might as well not be there. Weddings, children's "performances" and so on...

Once again I realize I might have worded that a bit differently: "Funny how they'll let cell phones into concerts now...but not into some other types of entertainment venues..."
