Grateful Dead

1969 Live Dead
1970 Workingman's Dead
1970 American Beauty
1971 Skull and Roses
1972 Wake of the Flood
1972 Europe '72

Live Dead: In this period the Dead began by capturing their live, psychedelic sound on record. This came a lot closer to their actual sound and persona than their first couple of studio records.

Workingman's Dead and American Beauty were a completely different direction. Cowboy Dead I sometimes call them; they easily could have been releases as a double album and are much ore laid back and feature a lot of acoustic guitar as well as David Grisman on mandolin.

Skull and Roses is another live album that reflects what the dead were becoming and includes covers of Merle Haggard and Chuck Berry as well as some "Cowboy Dead" and some psychedelic/ jammy Dead.

Wake of the Flood is a much more complex studio album with some really impressive songs and even a bit of a jazzier feel with Stella Blue and Eyes of the World.

Europe 72 again captures the ever evolving Grateful Dead sound during a period that many Dead fans consider to be there best and features everything from folk and country covers to spacey shyte.
