Posted yesterday on YouTube, this is a teaser for Peter Jackson's edit of footage shot during the band's January 1969 rehearsal and recording sessions. A small amount of this ended up in the Let It Be film, but the new film aims to show a broader picture of what the sessions were like. If you've heard much from the oft-bootlegged Nagra audio reels, you'll know the sessions were often a lot more jovial than the standard narrative claims they were.

Now the teaser is all smiles and fun, and this is also not the full picture. But hopefully the finished film will get the balance right.

From the Nagra reels, here's a compilation of audio bits & pieces from the sessions. The first piece is a great though incomplete version of Get Back with Lennon & McCartney both singing lead.

That looks great. Man I would happily pay to binge watch all 56 hours of the raw footage !

Cool stuff! I have a bootleg copy of the original film, and it is pretty bleak - until the rooftop concert. According to Jackson, this one should be more "balanced", to use Dave's description. But part of their angst was caused by the schedule - they had to come to the studio from essentially 9 -5. This was not what they were used to - they always recorded late at night until early morning hours. For us normal people, it would be like working third shift!

Lennon may look happy in those clips, but overall he definitely wanted out, and wanted to be doing his "Peace thing" with Yoko. This film is from January 1969, and he was already planning "Bed-Ins", etc. 'Give Peace a Chance' was recorded in June 1969. The Beatles put "The Ballad of John and Yoko" out as a single at this time!

But it's really George who did not want to be there. He had stayed with Dylan at his home in Woodstock in 1968 and was treated by Dylan as a musical "equal". He hated going back to being a "Beatle". Some of the bootlegs from this Let It Be session have the Beatles doing some of the songs that ended up on "All Things Must Pass", and John and Paul really don't take them seriously.

Even they knew this was not their best (by far) - that's why they recorded "Abbey Road" after this - a full fledged production with George Martin, showing their artistry in full glory. They didn't want this recording to be their "finale".

I'm really looking forward to this film, if only to see something "new". No band has been dissected as much as the Beatles, so anything new is great!

Ah, my bad! There was a little buzz about it previously, but then the pandemic made it disappear.

Good point! But I meant I didn’t even realize it was in the works.

I knew it was in the works but that wasn't from LTG. One of the news aggregators had a story about Peter Jackson's newest project. The headline was interesting and credible so I clicked on it.

I "heard" the "trailer" which has made me longing for the full version. The false antics put on by them got tiresome pretty quickly. They were better when playing live in front of an audience.

The Beatles are by far the most legendary band! In general, I noticed that in every field of art there are some kind of giants. For example, in music - the Beatles, in architecture-Bernardazzi, in literature-Christopher Tolkien. In general, I am a serious fan of it. He is certainly a genius in his field. Each of his books creates a new world in which you want to dive over and over again. And how cool it is after reading another book to discuss what you have read on the forums. I am very glad that I found a great forum where I spend an average of 5 hours a day. If you are also a Tolkien fan, then here is the link: thetolkienforum.com

With the Three part Get Back documentary ending w/ the Rooftop Concert, which took place exactly 55 years ago yesterday, a video guru I know (who mostly does Led Zep audio syncs of old silent fan shot super 8 film) put out this "Historical Cut" of all known footage from all 6 camera's video feeds. It's a fun watch. Enjoy.
