It's important to pay attention to the signs.

Sundog on Friday the 13th at Sequim, WA

I observed this one 20 hours before record-breaking rainfall on the Olympic Peninsula.

Joe

*For fellow sundog fans, it was a complete 360 degrees.

Amen to that, and we were tent camping, to boot!!
Great sleeping, though, especially since rain on the tent is one of my favorite forms of music. :D

Joe

As long as rain on the tent doesn't become rain in the tent, right?

You are correct, Dave!
And I'll have to admit that one of the factors that contributed to our early departure yesterday morning was just that. Fortunately, we had all our foodstuff and cooking gear under shelter so we started our day watching the rain....just like we do most days!

Joe

*I'll take all our gear to my shop today for the annual drying-out period! I'm also thinking of moving the annual bash to the east side of the mountains next year. 8)

Wow!! Cool pic. I've never heard the term "Sundog" before. Well, except maybe for the Arizona Sundogs. :?
After looking it up I now know what it means. :) Quite a similar definition of a "hunter's moon".

As always, enjoy your pics.

Peace

great shot Joe. As for rain and camping goes I personally just don't do it anymore. The last 3 camping trips ended soggy and with little ones it wasn't much fun. Someday , God willing I'll give it another go with the family.

"Camping" to my dear wife is called a Bed & Breakfast. She won't go anywhere she can't plug in her hair dryer.

Great shot Joe!

Just to be on the safe side of proofreaders (I am one so I know how picky they can be) , the image in the photo is actually/scientifically a sun halo.
I always refer to this phenomenon as a sundog, but you have to have the halo before you have the actual dogs, which look like a smaller sun(s) and form on a horizontal axis on one or both sides of the sun.

C'est tout! 8)

On one camping trip i was on it rained a lot and the nylon tent was old....duct tape kept the inside dry though once all the holes were discovered.
I love the sound of rain on a tent as well Joe....also every time I hear a sleeping bag zipper sound it reminds me immediately of camping.
nice picture...have only seen a full halo one time about 10 years ago....the sky also had those funny looking clouds that look like stacked layer cakes.

Ah yes, a sleeping bag veer alert....
Cindy gave me a two-person sleeping bag for my birthday a few years ago with the understanding that I could only share the bag....with her!

It's working out well,

Thanks for clearing that up, Joe. This is much more like the "hunter's moon" than a sundog.

When I lived in MN I saw some great sundogs. Usually in the dead of winter. Best was walking to work and there was a quadruple.
I remember a botany field trip back in the 60's when a torrential thunderstorm completely flooded out the campsite. There were about twelve of us and we went into the nearest small town in SE MN and liberated the laundromat, which liberated us of our cash    Our tent survived the deluge but not the half foot of water roaring through the campgrounds.
