Anyone else try the new daddario xs phosphur bronze series?? I bought a set for my D 4. On that particular guitar they are positively great. Im not a fan of coated strings, but the coating is not discernible. And string noise reduced by 80% at least.Really makes that D 4 ,s sound amplify. They are advertised as being tensioned for a 25 " scale. so id imagine on a short scale guitar ,the tension would be somewhat reduced.

Yeah, I tried the Phosphor Bronze EJ16s and the Flat Top Phosphor Bronze EFT16s. and also the EJ19 Bluegrass Phosphor Bronze on dreadnoughts. They're all really good. Just a little more snap or bite than the mellower bronze ones.

I'm probably in the minority, but I liked the EXP coating better. I think it was an enamel coating, and they sounded like the regular D'Addario Phosphor Bronze strings with about an hour of play wear - not quite as zingy as newly installed strings. I could probably get 30 hours of intensive play-time with that sound, as opposed to three with the regular uncoated PB.

The new ones probably last even longer, but don't sound quite as good.

EJ,S arent the same as the xs series. i didnt ever get to enthused with the ej series, but the xs has great response on two of my guitars.

I never think I should weigh in on these types of threads, even though they are my favorite outside of listening to your alls music creations....cause we all know I cannot commit. However, I love D'Addario EJ 17s. At least on my F30R. It's a close to a perfect match as that guitar knows. I should give the XS 17s a go then...

Price of strings getting to be a bummer, need to make more careful choices.

Consequently haven't been buying any acoustic strings.

Last set I installed was much earlier this spring, a set of Santa Cruz medium tension on D5CE, they were really weird at first, coming off aged EJ16's that actually sounded very good.

Minus that bit of comparison time, the strings went on to be great, the DC5E easily spanking all others in the volume and tone dept, no plan on taking them off for as long as possible.

youre correct, price of strings getting ridiculous. Dilemma is continue buying cheaper, or spend more for longer lasting strings. Sometimes more $$ doesnt equate to better tones. In the case if these daddario xs series, both on my 12 string, and on a D 4 proved to be the correct decision ,this time .lol

Will have to check 'em out. Have had good luck with D'Addario acoustic strings before so far up 'til now.

Well, when I started playing in the mid-70's, nickel plated electric strings (slinkies/XLs) were about $3/pack, and acoustic strings could cost as much as $4-5. If you paid list ($6-10), you were being ripped off.

That dollar price stayed constant up to around 2010 or so. If they kept pace with inflation, those slinkies would have cost $11.50

Those $3 strings would have been $16 in today's money. We've actually been pretty spoiled for a long time. Now if wages would have only kept up.

ive never been a big daddario fan/ user, until i tried a set of the nb,s on my f 412.Actually a monel type string, which i love. However ,after getting coerced into trying these new pb xs strings. ??? im happy with them. In the spirit of transparency, i still prefer the monels or nb,s on my f 412. But, ive got a high end 12 string of another brand that these xs series pb,s are just what that guitar has been needing. Its a pretty
" rare bird" lol. So im ordering another set for a mahogony guild.

Just put a set of xs phosphor bronze on my d55. Bit early to comment but I think I prefer John Pearse, will follow up on that in due course.
