that heel cap is gassed out they do that and then just crumble. the heel cap likely will need to be replaced. they just crumble when u touch them.
that is not impact from a fall-the headstock would not have survived that.

i don't understand how it a "stereo" Guild with no M/S switch. but i'm sure there is an explination. 1970 HB-1s rival the 50s les pauls imo. that SF-6 is well worth 3 grand if u have the cash. good luck!

Most stereo Guilds I’ve encountered did not have a M/S switch.

Hmm. I haven’t paid for it yet because of all the clammer around the heel cap! So what do you guys think? Should I shell out the 3k or do y’all think I could find another Starfire VI for a better price. Every Starfire I’ve found that’s a VI and stereo are well over this price! This man wanted 4500 but I offered 3k and he accepted. Should I go ahead and pay him and after I receive it have a master luthier check it over and if it turns out to be a contact injury rather than binding rot! I can send it back and receive a refund if he has misrepresented it so I’m not too worried but also on the other side of the coin I have sever anxiety and I’m wallowing in the muck about weather or not to just spend another thousand or so to get a pristine example???!! Please give me some advice fellow Guildsmen!
You offered and he accepted and you haven’t paid? That’s not cool. You agreed to buy it when you made the offer.

I had a 1970 SF III that had terrible binding rot and the heel cap looked like this one. I put some water thin superglue on it so it would stop crumbling and then just played it.
I think you should go ahead with the deal you made, especially if you have approval rights after seeing it in person. It looks like a beauty otherwise!

Sorry I missed the possibility of the cap deteriorating. I think that's absolutely right the more I look at it. Good news is that I'd worry a whole lot less about the guitar knowing that.

I made sure he was aware that if there’s any structural damage or anything like that, according to the master luthier, then he’s taking it back! I bought it on reverb and they have insurance too so that’s cool! Thanks for the advice..

Yes but I was asking about structural issues which he was claiming none. So I wanted him to know that if he misrepresented it I’d be returning it no matter his policy! You can back out of any deal if after you make the offer you find out it’s not what you thought. That’s business 101. I’m not gonna pay someone just bc I made an offer if the guitar is shit but I didn’t know till someone more knowledgeable than me. Shit you must be rich! after I made the offer some people on this forum pointed out the potential structural issues so until I had cleared that up no way was I giving him a red cent!

Actually it’s a special order so maybe the original owner wanted it that way. Idk

Dude I don’t care. I grew up in poverty and offer acceptance or not I’m making sure it’s a good guitar. Just because I missed the pic about the binding rot before I made the offer doesn’t mean I’m just gonna pay him without finding out exactly what’s going on there! Understand bro!? Thanks otherwise!

If you're not set on a vintage, a new one will cost half as much and have no issues.

And comes with a case!

The issue here is that depending upon the sites term's and conditions making an offer and having it accepted constitutes a legally binding contract. Not paying can be seen as breaking that contract as can be not delivering the agreed upon merchandise.

Not a real issue in this case since there was communication but as the story was first told it wasn't totally clear.

You’re right. I’ve paid now so it’s all good! Reverb automatically re-lists it after 72 hours so it may make your rep bad and face potential expulsion from the market place… it’s not a legal contract bro!

Probably late to the party, but that is a great looking guitar. However, the plastic rot bothers me a bit, I would be asking hard questions about the binding also.

You’re not late to the party I’m still here! It was sold “as-described” but I did ask the hard questions and made sure he stated that there were no issues other than the neck heel rot. Ok and I’m taking it to master luthier the day it arrives and if he finds anything other than just a deteriorating heel and a need for new frets then I’m sending it back! I mean if something is wrong with it it’s most certainly misrepresentation and that’s an insured aspect of Reverb or so I’m lead to believe.
