Hello All

Just started with site and have a question(s).

Purchased a Starfire IV Black with SN CW000195. Paper in F hole sez Corona, CA.

Questions:
Date of manufacturing?

Pick ups sound fine, but are their alternative pick ups that would make this thing smoke????

Thanks,
CMBlue

Hey CMBlue,

As far as I know Guild electrics were manufactured in Westerly, RI until 2001, and in Corona, CA from 2002-2004. Assuming more than 195 were made per year and my information is correct that would make it a 2002. Also, I believe Fender, which purchased Guild in 1995, switched from Guild HB-1 to Fender HB-1 pickups for the later Westerly, and the Corona models. I just got a 1991 SF-4 and the pickups sound pretty sweet, but I have never played a Corona SF-4, just a Corona Bluesbird. Both sound great, but the '91 Westerly SF-4 to me sounds better. Not quite the same guitars, so the comparison may not be fair. I'm sure others can speak to the pickup differences much better. I hope this helps.

Here's my SF-4, and welcome to LTG!

Dave

HI CM WLECOME ABOARD! I see a lot of agreement from the 'leccie guys that the Fender 'buckers just ain't as good as the early Guild ones. Do some snooping through the archived threads for suggestions, especially in "Tech" and this forum. :D
