Hi all....

I've been enjoying the 50's Guilds but these two from 1960 and '61 have their own magic......

P2070111.jpg

1960 CE-100B Capri and 1961 Starfire II.

The Starfire came to me in a trade with a friend and is "unoriginal" in the most beautiful and satisfying way.
He found it stripped of its pickups, pickguard and tailpiece but was in fine shape in all other respects.
Thankfully the guy that set this up for him had parts drawers that went back a good 30 years!
The black Dynasonics are from a 50's Gretsch DuoJet and the Bigsby is an old one that might have graced the first of the Starfire III's. This guitar sounds sensational!

This CE-100B is just another great Franz equipped Guild.....this ones all original except that I thought it was well worth some new frets. The Franz tone is chimey and brilliant even in the neck position, but easily softened for those that prefer the "mittens" sound.

Hope you enjoy.....

I've managed to learn to take and post pictures....guess figuring out the best way to record and post soundfiles would be a good next step!

I'll study up on it.....

Those are both absolutely beautiful! Those Dynas look fantastic on a red hog Starfire, and the C100 looks like new... I want them both! :D

Beautiful guitars!!

Here's my own "unoriginal" Starfire, it's been refinished (was black originally too), and I put a tune-a-matic on it :

Uh, Hans... What's that third guitar from the left, the one with the light colored fingerboard? It doesn't really look like the Roy Buchannan model, is that some cheap knockoff of the Guild?

:D

And is that a black 550T or a black DE-500 in the master's hands?

Not so sure about the 'master's hands' part, but the guitar is indeed a black DE-500.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Would you accept "guru's hands?"

The black DE-500 is super cool, especially w/ the contrasting white DeArmonds. I'm partial to the appeal of pretty, natural finished wood, however, I can't deny that black guitars look cool.

John,

That's a somewhat obscure guitar that isn't worth a whole lot but I thought it fitted in nicely with the 'black & white' theme!

Craig,

No, I'm not really all that good with plants! Eh ....... I prefer to take the fifth on that one!

By the way thats a nice 'Rastaman" hat you have. Also do you have any images of your acoustic guitars?

Actually that's the traditional hat for the men in Afghanistan. I don't remember how I got it though. Maybe I should take the fifth on that one as well!

I do have photos of my acoustics but no 'group' photos with a theme. I have probably more acoustic guitars than I need but my two main acoustics were made by Kim Walker.
Actually, one of these could have been in the 'black & white' photo, because it was built along that theme as well!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

I love how threads evolve.......

.....and I'm loving this Black and White interlude....I come prepared!

(nice guitars and photos, Hans!) and a great push from Walter......

OK.....I've been loving black guitars and fat archtops for some time now.......here's a few that have passed my way.....

My much loved factory black '45 L-7 with a McCarty "conversion unit"........

BlackTedclosefront.jpg

The same black L-7 with its funky blonde '47 stablemate with double Ted McCarty......the two are inseparable.

P2070094.jpg

Lastly.....a '34 L-10 and the '45 L-7 in its pre-Ted days.....

L-10-L-7.jpg

As Guildified as I've become lately, it seems that something Guild in black might not be so easy to come by!

Hey Hans,

I don't think I've seen that one before - I have seen that Duane Eddy, and probably made all kinds of "eh..gulp..WOW!" sounds when I did though! Love the black guitars, and the scenery! (is that an Epi Coronet with a NYC pickups I see? Never seen that in black either!)

Zizala, the more I see of your guitar collection, the more I like it!!

I played an Epi Zephyr Regent w those NYC pups recently and they were remarkable. On the Zephyr they were among the richest, fattest pickups I've ever heard. I'd love to know how they sound on a solid.
