And in yet another 'zine whose name is now escaping me, Kim Thayil flaunting his S-100, logo and chesterfield fully exposed, on the cover and in the article about the Soundgarden reunion ...

Didn't see this reference until now -- been busy putting my kids Christmas toys together -- but I also noticed that no one else mentioned that Soundgarden is the cover story on the most recent issue of Guitar World. Kim Thayil is cradling his S-100 for all to see. Judging by the name on the TRC and the gold hardware, I'm thinking a post-75 model or maybe a reissue?

The article was long but good, especially when Kim and Chris talk briefly about Kim's S-100s. With the cover photo and inside one with Kim's S-100 prominently displayed, you can almost hear the phone lines and e-mails coming in at Guild saying, "Are you guys going to re-reintroduce the S-100?"

Cool story as well about Duane Allman's '57 Goldtop, and one of the reviews was of the PRS SE Santana, that looks very interesting.

Better yet: the used market takes a 10-15% value hike. Ohhhh...I mean....better for the ones you already own anyway.

Another photo of the prominently displayed S-100 found inside the magazine.

The color goes back to an earlier point I made about black guitars being hard to see, especially against dark clothes. That natural finish definitely stands out.

Hmm, I suppose these guys are in essence saying "we're not merely playing on the usual Fender axe, like everyone else does" Nice touch guys.

Yes in fact in the maag ind in your post I noticed it had a definite orge tint. While allowing for possible color shift in both media, it still made me wonder if it was actually the "Nature Boy" finish. Or is that what you meant?

After discussing this with Qvart, one of our highest-ranking S-100 experts, the spacing of the tailpiece, the model name on the TRC and the gold hardware led us (actually it was Qvart) to surmise that this was either a reissue prototype or one of the first reissues. There was a natural reissue posted on a different subject a while back that also looked more orangeish than the 70s "Nature Boy" finish. Perhaps another clue that Mr. Thayil has a reissue in his hands.

Gulliver182 has a 1998 reissue with the natural finish that looks pretty similiar.

That's enough evidence for me. The article pics also made me think of that thread here with a picture Kim posing with an S-100 whose label had been most ungraciously taped over. I wondered if there was an unspoken reason for proudly displaying "the colors" this time around. :D

I'm guessing nothing other than his love of the instrument and perhaps a little behind the scenes goading by FMIC, who might be thinking of another round of reissues.

What if we started some kind of FB page. I know there are members here that dislike FB, but if we got a ton of likes on a page for "We want Guild Electric guitars reissued" maybe that would tip the balance. IDK.... I would just like to see it happen with a true HB-1 reissue pup.

I'm one of those FB haters but that doesn't mean the pressure shouldn't be kept up. If it dies down they won't see any demand. Buy a New Guild and when you register it online, indicate on the demographic survey that you plan to buy an electric guitar in the next 5 years, preferably a GUILD!

Sorry for the one-year-later thread bump.

I just got a natural '73 S-100 from guitar center. And it looks like it has gold hardware, which got me searching the archives. it's quite possible that Thayil's holding a vintage S-100, not a proto-reissue.

Waiting with baited breath for it to arrive ....

That guy on the left sure looks P/O'd. Could it be because he's not the one clutching the Guild?!

I never noticed that until you mentioned it. Were'nt these 2 guys One-Hit-Wonders with Blackhole Sun? Regardless they at least DID have a hit song, and on a Guild no less.

Sorry RG, missed this one. Yep, the cherry '77 S-100 is now Classic White, having been refinished by Caseygree after he bought it from me.
