A couple weeks ago I sold my Tacoma ER28C to the son of a good buddy. He's a high school sophomore, getting serious about guitar, and needed an upgrade. Took a loss, but they're practically family, and his dad helped me put in a solid maple floor on the first floor of our house a couple of years ago, so I was happy to make the price work. I wasn't playing the Tacoma, so I'm glad his son will play it a lot.

And, speaking of maple, a few months ago (see thread: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=12304) I met at gal who had a practically mint 1997 D30. Called her up, and she still had it. She sold it to me for what I got for the Tacoma. No net cost, and the ER28C goes out, and the D30 comes in! Yeah! It needs some TLC -- fret polish, fretboard cleanup, new strings, and then I'll post pics. She was the first owner, and I don't think she played it -- the orginal price sticker is still on the back of the headstock! Now I just gotta figure out how to sneak it in the house. . .

Congratulations Dog ... a very smooth move! We had thread a while back with suggestions on how to handle GAS-related domestic issues; you might try telling her it's for someone else?

so what's the prob?

I think she'd like to see the number of guitars in the house trending downward. I have 5, if you count the backpacker and the Yamaha, my daughter has 2, Herself has one, a nylong string number, so that's 8 in a family of four, not to mention a banjo, a busted dulcimer, an electronic drum kit and a piano. I see it as a good start, she sees it as a herd that needs thinning.

yeah, dog, I feel your pain. I have roughly the same number of instruments and Mrs. Dread ain't exactly thrilled when I show up with another stray

When I got my F-512, I soon thereafter got her a diamond ring. I subsequently sold my F-512, but she still has the ring. So goes the economics

Southwest Florida is a great place to store instruments, dogberry; so feel free to send it on down for safekeeping! Your wife need never know!

I'm lucky, if I order a guitar online or from eBay, I just tell my wife there's a guitar coming, keep a look out for UPS on date such and such. Since I often send out guitars, she generally thinks I'm just getting back a repair or some such. One trick I learned for soothing GAS locally, is to tell her I have a guitar to bring to my luthier, then l take an empty case (always keep a few around, you never know) and when I come back I show off my new guitar with some tale about he had this and gave me almost =$$$ for my other instrument.

I also keep my instruments in a part of the basement studio she never goes in to.

Works for me, of course YMMV.

OK, keep this under your hat:
I have a shop about 3 miles away and my wife never goes there. It's also just down the road from both UPS and FedEx so all my deliveries go there for "will call." Works like a charm!

But then, we're sort of out of wall space here, anyway. She thinks that having 7 guitars and a banjo hanging around is nice enough, but if the 5 that are at the shop came home one day....

GASsed I am,
Joe

I think what I really need to do is just show her this thread and say, "See honey, I don't really have that many guitars -- and only three are Guilds, so the other two don't really count!"
