So, are all these keys the same?

The key I got for my case with my Starfire V doesn't unlock or lock it. It fits the key hole but doesn't turn. I emailed Guild/Cordoba and they told me all the keys are the same and sent a new one. The new Key is completely different and doesn't even go in the lock.

Now my Starfire is a Fender era build so I thought I'd post up a picture and see if others who have a key for theirs can tell me if it's cut the same. I can't see why they would have different cuts but you never know...

Here's my key. Does this look the same for anyone else with a Fender era Guild?

None of my Guild case keys look like that. Some of my keys fit multiple cases, some don't. I suspect the case you have is not the case currently in use and somewhere in your communications with Cordoba someone missed that you were talking about a case from the 1990's.

P.S. - Now that I think of it maybe the NS case key does look like that. I need to find it. I rarely lock my cases. At this point in my life locking a case provides more inconvenience than protection.

+1 - if someone takes the guitar, they will get in the case.

The lock is to keep the latch from opening while you're carrying it, or maybe to keep curious kids out of the case, not to protect it from thieves.

Who would take a guitar out of the case in order to steal it?

I meant if someone takes the guitar (in the case), they will later be able to get in it. i.e., we agree, it's not really a "security" method.

Some guys I knew back in the '70's kept their case locked to keep curious "stash stealers" out...

Absolutely, the lock still not prevent thieves but that's another point entirely. With ask respect guys I'm trying to find an answer to why a key I'm given with the guitar when I bought it doesn't work rather than get into a debate in the merits of the lock itself.

What I am trying to uncover is whether there is a fault in the lock. Most cases will use a standard key which is exactly the same as the next case so I find it strange that this one doesn't work. It should be exactly the same as every other guild case of that era.

Incidentally this is not a 90's guitar. I bought it new in August of this year but it was built prior to Cordoba taking over the ownership. There were two guilds in store so I've contacted them to see if the store can get in touch with the person who bought the other one and see if they're having issues too. Perhaps our keys got swapped...

Staffy, I'm sure your answer will be coming soon. But there is no thread on LTG that is immune to a veer...

He's trying to keep us on topic. Bless his heart...... :devilish:

I know right! I'm on a few bike forums as well and I know that these things get sidetracked.

FWIW, I tend not to use the lock either, but I am the kind of person that gets the irrits when something that should work doesn't, just in case there's the one off time I might need it.

BTW, Staffy, that's a nice looking guitar for your avatar! The Starfire V, I assume. Love to see more photos!

I recently purchased from Guild a Brand New Guild Deluxe Dreadnought Acoustic Case to pair with my D26 for sale and that is the same style key that came with my Acoustic case along with a warranty card for the case and a few Guild Shield logo stickers. The Case I purchased was the one Cordoba started advertising after the transition of Guild. With your Starfire being a Pre Cordoba Korean Model it may have had a different key from the Fender cases before Cordoba Purchased them. One option is to contact Fender Customer Service and ask them for insight or maybe even another case key. I have had dealings with them about Fender Made Guilds even after the sale to Cordoba and they have always been helpful. Just an Idea and maybe a direction to go in if you can't get things worked out and the Key is that important to you. Hope this helps.

That's not a half bad idea. I'll shoot an email off to them today.

Walrus, it is the Starfire V and is now my main guitar. Considering it had to beat off a mid 90's MIJ Tele Deluxe to get that honor it's really saying something. I was pretty much glued to that guitar before the Guild came along.

I've got a thread for the Starfire here. I'll get some more photos up when I get it back from my tech next Saturday.
