I just changed strings on one of my guitars and realized that for 40+ years when I take the old strings off I just try to wind them in a circle (like the new ones come) to keep them from hitting my eye, then I throw them away. Thinking there had to be some use for them I did a google search and found the Second Strings Project has anyone ever done this? joan

I've never heard of the project but it sounds pretty neat.
For 40+ years, as well, I've done the same thing with my old strings that you do, mainly so they'll fit in the garbage under the sink and not poke something/someone in all the wrong places.

Thanks for the link,
Joe

Please don't ask Graham what he does with his g-string!

Sounds like a worthy cause, Joan.

Funny. I've been saving my strings all wound up for quite a while now just waiting for something to do with them. My sister wanted them for some kind of crazy craft, but I think I could explain why she doesn't get all of them. I'm also going to pass this info along to Marguerite's music. They probably could generate a pretty high volume of strings in short order. I'd recommend the same to other members, as I'm sure we all know a luthier/tech or two.

Probably the same thing as with the fur thongs.

But I doubt if anyone wants to collect those.
