 So wrong, and yet so right! Great find! And if Louie was smoking his usual preference I don't think he would mind.

That is just so wrong on so many levels. As soon as I pick myself up off the floor and stop laughing I'll try to be offended... or something.

Now, THAT was a crime for which there is no atonement. KG will spend eternity with 50 didgeridoos, 10 bagpipers and an accordion playing "You Light Up My Life" on an endless loop.

Watched Metheny on his Orchestrial tour some three weeks ago.
Why does this guy talk about others while producing expensive concerts, where 20 percent of the audience are overly excited (the real fans?), 60 percent don't know what they are doing here, and 20 percent just to leave after a while …
Better invest that ticket money on some flowers for your wife preparing your next GAS atack …

Jim Hall will play here tomorrow - I hope (and I'm quite sure) that'll be better …

Imho that Satchmo video is partly funny but not even more.

Louis stays contemporary, always! Ha ha.

As for Metheny talking about others, he made a comment and somebody asked for further clarification (I'm not sure they'd ever ask again).

I think Metheny was passionate about it because he has invested his life in what he thinks is the promotion of jazz music, and a lot of guys have died out on the road for this music.

I haven't followed his whole career, but I liked "Off Ramp," and "The Road To You," albums.

The older I get, the more I appreciate Louis Armstrong. I count myself fortunate to sometimes play with a trumpet/cornet guy that sometimes can sound like Louis (in the phrasing and ideas and tone on the trumpet, not the singing).

Ken Burns, in his PBS "Jazz" series, makes the case that Jazz pretty much began and ended with Louis Armstrong. That's arguable I suppose, but in context of Pat Metheny's comments, I can see why he is passionate about Louis, over Kenny G.
