Hello all,
I just received this e-mail from Betty Orth, Gordon's wife, and was just stunned:

David: Just wanted to let you know the sad news. Gordon had an accident at the farm and was burned. His lungs were also burned and he could not survive the injury. He passed away yesterday. Thanks you for your friendship. Betty O.

Many of you know I have bought sets of Gordon's bridge pins for all my Guilds... most recently just a few weeks back for my D-44. I know several others have also bought Gordon's pins. Gordon and Betty were excellent folks to deal with... I talked to Gordon several times on the phone over the years, and always enjoyed our conversations. I thought I'd pass the news on here...

I dropped Betty a brief e-mail with condolences... but am never very good at these things. Perhaps those of us who have worked with Gordon could get to gether and send some flowers? I do have the address where I sent payments... I presume he just worked out of his home...

Dave

That's tragic Dave.

I have spoken a few times on the phone with Gordon and was thrilled to meet him last October in Arlington. Also had the privilege to listen to him pick at a mandolin in the hotel lobby.

Sorry to hear this. I never had dealings with him or played anything with his parts, to my knowledge, but he had a good reputation.

Very sad to hear. I've always heard good about him. Graham I didn't realize he was in Arlington last year, I would love to have met him. That may be the man that Coastie had build my truss rod cover. Thank you for that regretful news Dave.

No sir ............... http://www.nicholsguitars.com/trcs.html

I've still got the envelope somewhere Gary, just packed away right now. I see that TRC each day and it's really grown on me. Thanks for the info and the truss rod cover.

No no Gary, it wasn't that I didn't like it, I've always liked it, but always appreciated the way the guitars come from the factory. I'm the same way with cars and trucks, I've never modified the looks of one because I like their looks origionally.

From the moment you sent the TRC, I loved it, but was apprehensive about putting it on the DV73, but I did. It took some getting used to, but it has personalized it and I've gotten some comments on it.....all positive. It went on the DV73 the afternoon I received it and has been there ever since.

Thanks again my brother,

Sorry to hear the sad news Dave. Just yesterday I picked up one of my guitars and thought "I have to call that Gordon Orth guy that Dave told me about" for some pins. I know you thought highly of him--I'm sorry I never got around to calling. The world needs more craftsmen like him.

Dave, et al,

Oh, that's bad news, indeed. I knew Gordon for many years. He was a good man to do business with and by all accounts, a fine husband. I bought 3 sets of bridge pins from him at the last Dallas show.

Got an email today that Gordon's wife Betty passed away. :(

Again, I had the pleasure of meeting both of them and they were wonderful people.

At least they are together again after a short separation.

R.I.P.
I just emailed with them some time ago without ordering anything; very nice contact.
