Hello guys,
I am new here and thought I'd say hello to you all. I have been lucky enough to pick up two Guilds over the past few years,
so I thought I'd post a few snaps to show them off. I'm pretty sure they are both 70's models, but I can't remember exactly which years. I absolutely love them both. The S-100 is possibly my favourite guitar I own for sound, playability and just general awesomeness!

You'll get lots of "violent agreement" (quoting Frono-the -mod ) on this statement, including from yours truly.
Welcome to LTG!

Oh... and how does Haggis really taste?... And I'm not asking that with any undercurrent of disgust (born and raised in France, where we also eat every single part of any given animal, and enjoy it  ), but I would really like to try it. Bet it's awesome.

Welcome!

Yep, those are both from the '70's. Provide serial numbers and we'll tell you more specifically.

The S-100 is from somewhere between '73 and early '75 and the S-70 is later-'70's.

This the quote that stood out for me as it did for BP above. Just special guitars in a no nonsense way.

Welcome to the forum DasBeef. :D

Welcome to LTG, DasBeef! Both beautiful guitars, one of which I have yet to acquire and another I wanted to get at some point in the past year.

Here you'll find plenty of info on both models as well as advice, help etc. Also you'll get encouraged a lot to expand your Guild family which might hurt your wallet though

bluesypicky - Cheers. Haggis isn't really my bag. It's kind of like a burst sausage with a grainier texture and different spices.

fronoulax - Cheers!

Qvart - Had a quick look into serial numbers and the S-100 could be a '72, but I think I recall it being advertised as a 73. The serial isn't so clear on it. I'll have another look in the broad daylight at some point. The S-70 seems to be a '79, going by the serial/dates on the Guild website.

Zelja - Absoloutely correct. Look ace. Play ace. Sound ace. I have a couple of other guitars that I sometimes think I prefer, but I always come back to the S-100.

Hagmeat - Agreed!

Hammer - Controversial! Ha ha!

Russian Guy - Cheers. Good luck in getting your paws on these. They are well worth it! I tried to use the search on the site as I figured there would be some good info on these guitars. The search kept returning me nothing AT ALL. I tried putting in S-70 and S-100. Am I doing it wrong. I flicked through the site and found the S-70 'Manual'. I had no idea what the switches really did until then. If you have any links to threads, feel free to share them!

If broad daylight doesn't help, a blacklight in the dark usually will.

The search here, in a word, blows. It's the only thing less than desirable here. Everything else is a bowl of cherries. Throw something like this in Google:

Hello DasBeef,

Welcome! If the S-100 is really from 1973, it should have a label glued to the inside of the back panel. An S-100 from 1972 may have it but not if it's an early model. If it has a label you should be able to read the serial number on there!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Sure thing! Here's my first thread on here and it does have a bit dedicated to S-70.

On the second page it has Operating instructions sheet that Hans sent me which explains the purpose of those two switches. I took the liberty and Photoshopped it a bit as the original's resolution was a tad low.

Here it is

Hansmoust - Cheers for that. I shall check it out!

Russian Guy - Thanks for the info and the instructions! Shall be printing them out and sticking them in the case!

Welcome DB. That's a fine pair of vintage Guild solidbodies you have there and I like the variety -- the HB-1 equpped S-100 and the single coil DiMarzios of the S-70.

And if you'll allow a little editing, perhaps this could be the new slogan for the S-100 Owners Roster: The S-100 is my favourite guitar for sound, playability and just general awesomeness! :D

Thunderface - Cheers fella! Slogan away my good man!

Also, I can confirm my S-100 is a '73. Just took the control plate off and got the serial off the sticker.

Here's a couple of terrible internal shots.....

Ha ha. While searching for S-100's, I discovered that the site I found my S-100 on still has it listed as sold, even though I bought it in 2010....
Link
If you click on the picture, it opens up a gallery with three decent snaps.
I also called a shop in England regarding a '73 S-100 deluxe. They want £1650 for it. Think I'll hold off......
