Room humidifiers

This is something I've been meaning to ask since I updated my Dude Room. Do any of you guys use full room humidifiers and if so, what ones have worked or failed? I'd love to be able to put the acoustic cases in the closet and have everything on display, but super dry weather scares me. Thanks in advance!

I have a little Honeywell unit that cost me about $60 bucks in my room. New water about twice a week. Keeps it around 50% RH very nicely.

I forget what mine is, but dont' get one which has a replaceable filter. Those things get foul. Luckily only have to run mine when I run the heater, but not that often in Florida.

Now that's a thought...that would help out my hands too, whereas a Dampit would only help the guitar!

My wife gets the humidifiers at Wal-Mart,
The current one is a Care Free, no filter. It has lasted about 1 year and is on it's last legs.
It has run 24/7 for the year. Add water every day $50.00

Where can I get a Honeywell?

Figure I'll add my 2 cents here because I like the setup I have.

This is what i use

It works well because the unit holds 6 gallons and contains a pump built in to run water over the filter.

Yes the filters foul if you use tap water. Because I'm also into aquariums i have a reverse osmosis system. I use this to purify the water and fill up a 5 gallon jug and then dump that into the unit. Filters last just about forever this way.

I personally think a room humidifer is much easier. And its good for you as well....not just the guitars...

If I lived back in a cold climate with harsh winters, I would opt for something like this. I actually had some furniture suffer damage from dry air when I lived in Michigan. Plus the dry winter air just killed my sinuses and my skin.

I, too, bought my filter-less humidifier at Wal-Mart a few years ago. It's made it through a few winters, but I only run it for a few hours a day in winter. Don't know what brand it is, but the electronics are a pain in the patootie (it takes at least 5 button pushes any time I turn it on to get it set right) and I cannot program it to actually do what I want, which is keep the room at a specific humidity and turn off when it gets there. I think I'll get a honeywell too, as I'm sure that would be made to last and have some intelligent controlling hardware.

edit: hmm, actually maybe not. If this is an ultrasonic humidifier, I think I'll pass. These tend to deposit minerals on surfaces in the room. The nice thing about the Wal-Mart jobbie is that it just drips water over a mild heating element, and that seems to work pretty well.
