Amazing voice. He sang some iconic songs. Terrific pianist as well. RIP Eric.

I have wondered about the go all the way song if it caused a hub bub back in the day. I was a kid at the time and remember the song but never thought anything funny about it. But to have a song about a girl telling that to a boy must have raised some eyebrows.

I think what kept it on the air was how he slurred the words together. For the longest time I thought he was saying “go-oh away” not “ go all the way”

One of those diphthong singing techniques where you don’t want to pronounce the trailing L’s in a word.

:(

I remember the minor controversy back in the 1970s over Carmen's use of Rachmaninoff's music in two of his big singles. There was a mistaken assumption that, because no copyright remained upon the Rachmaninoff music in the US, there was no copyright at all. But there was.

If I recall correctly, things were settled with the Rachmaninoff estate amicably and fairly, in a most gentlemanly manner by both parties--quite unlike today's vitriolic greed-inspired musical cash grab law suits.

It raised more than eyebrows...

Since it's the title of the song, it seemed pretty obvious what he was singing, and that is probably what helped make it popular. Like "Afternoon Delight", "Do It To Me One More Time", and so many more '70's songs, risque lyrics could elevate the song on the charts. It's not like today were some of these "artists" say exactly what they mean!

The Raspberries are part of my youth, driving around listening to the car radio. Carmen's voice was very recognizable.

RIP.

Holy Cow! Another Ohio rocker gone. RIP.

When I was a kid, there were a few clubs called the Hullabaloo scattered across NE Ohio from the mid-60s to the mid-70s. Eric Carmen and the Raspberries, Joe Walsh and the James Gang and Todd Rundgren used to regularly play this Hullabaloo circuit.

One was in my hometown, and it was where all the teenagers hung out, including our babysitters. I remember that one of them brought over the Raspberries first record which had a scratch-and-sniff sticker that smelled like raspberry. I've since always associated that babysitter with the smell of raspberry. Oh sweet youth!
