Ahmad Jamal was great and was a huge influence on so many people. Sadly he was more important and influential than he was famous.

Gone at 92. :(

I saw Him in 2010, when he was In his late ‘70’s, and he played a fantastic set. Really inspiring, vibrant music.
It demonstrated to me that creativity and passion have no age limits.
play on Ahmad; you done good.

My mother was a fan, took me with her when she saw him in a club in North Hollywood when I was 4 (1960). Was fascinated with the drums, drummer let me touch 'em and mess around a little with a brush.

Think he must have played "Poinciana" that night, cause when my mother played the record for me a few years later it was like I already knew what was coming. And probably why I was fascinated with the drums that night. Fantastic groove.

Sad news, he looked like he'd never pass away, still young after so many years...He'd been playing major festivals in France up till recently (before Covid pandemic I guess), and he was the best jazz I heard then (listened to him live a couple of times on the radio). Lively warm music, with depth too, but never boring I found...Thought he was doing better than most younger people (most or them all ☺️)...Him and Charles Lloyd, an other survivor.
Hope he's happy where he is...🌴🪐🌈
