I was at the local guitar center looking at some les pauls, when this little girl, maybe 7 or 8, runs up to me with a mini acoustic around her neck and says "do you know this song?" and she plays the intro to "smoke on the water" i looked at her and said..."know it? i WROTE it"

she went running off yelling..."hey ma, this man wrote the song...."

I agree that each store can vary greatly. I mostly use their website for online purchases. You can make an in-store experience better if you get to know someone who works there (and continues to work there). Then always look for them when you want help or info. Buying used gear is totally hit or miss. Selling used gear or trading it in... forget it! And yes, avoid weekends, evenings, holidays, and any other high volume times. The racket is unbearable. It's no wonder the employees are sometimes cranky!

So, to continue my education about GC, when I do a search for Guild acoustic guitars, I see a page with 25 listed. Would these be at other stores and have to be shipped here for a hands-on experience?

*FWIW, the new store is located on the north side of town and obviously aimed at the Canadian shoppers who provide much of the lifeblood for the local economy....eh? We locals don't have any money but it seems that our brothers and sisters from Canuckistan do! ;)

Joe:
In my opinion every guitar there is a used guitar as several posters stated about the people in there playing guitars. I have watched the shredders move form one guitar to the next. With that said My Gretsch I bought there and with their no questions asked return policy if for some reason you get home with it and do not like it take it back. Every sales person I have ever talked to in there looks on their computer and says we can get it shipped here. So if their system has something you want have them ship it to your store and bring it back if you do not want it. Price can be negotiated also some. Over all if they had something I wanted at my price I would buy it.
Just my opinion

I'm thinknig that's probably correct. All recent GC purchase anecdotes I can recall have been about used American-built Guilds, and to give 'em their due, they seem to be very accommodating about transferring inventory and allowing you a "try before buy". I think they're still only "authorized" for "imported" Guild product as Frono mentioned. So that may confuse a "search" return on their website as well. When I've gone on their site, if you dig down to a specific guitar you might be interested in, it does give the store location of the guitar and a phone number to the store, so you can do a little preliminary investigation.

I will say this about GC, the noise and the people don't bother me if you can get a screaming deal on a used Guild from them. Ask Sandy about used guitars at GC. : ) What if say, you could get a gorgeous JF55 from GC for about $1000? I don't care what the place looks like, how crowded it is, or what the people in there know, or don't know.

Which reminded of yet another negotiating tactic: When you get to the counter, pull out your roll of singles and start counting 'em off as you lay 'em out one by one....with any luck at all they may tell you to go ahead and stop at around 800....
