Hey folks,

Found a very special F212 on Reverb on Sunday 7/5 - bought it and paid immediately.

Thing is - the seller has not responded in any way since then. No tracking number, no email, etc. I sent two emails (gentle check ins - “no rush just checking the status of the order”), one 7/8, and one today.

I’m not worried about the timeframe, and I’m not worried about my money - I know I’m covered in the event something went sideways. Seller has all positive feedback, a few sales in recent months (including “fast shipping” feedback), and another guitar for sale at the moment (was listed at the time I bought the F212).

I’d really like this guitar - so the question is: how long should I wait? I’m cool with waiting a month or however long is needed - but the total lack of communication is odd. One other thing - I initially made a lower offer, which the seller rejected within 30 minutes or so. I made another, then decided to buy it outright because the price was fair enough and I didn’t want to risk someone else grabbing it. This all occurred the same day he listed the guitar.

Has anyone experienced sellers who only check their email once a week or something? Should I assume the guy had an emergency? I‘ve bought and sold tons on Reverb and never encountered this before. Is there hope??? 🌞

Yeh that is definitely my plan - though I’m concerned they might cancel the sale and refund me or something, so was gonna wait a bit - just not sure at what point I give up.

They want transactions to succeed. They want their commission. Express your desires and concerns.

What Hey Mikey says is the right thing to do.
The way the economy is going, you’ll be able to buy a better f212for less $$ in six months
Luck!

Fair - I’ll be contacting them Monday in that case. In the meantime - just kind of wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this? I know I haven’t - if it were something I could just grab elsewhere, I’d have requested a refund on the third day (Reverb requires Items to be shipped within 3 days). Again I’m fine with waiting for any purchase - especially these days - but the radio silence is unsettling.

Oh back story is - I’ve been looking for a 1968 Hoboken F212 - had a ‘68 Westerly awhile back - and this one fits the bill. Haven’t seen any other other ‘68 Hobokens come up in the last 1.5 years of looking.

Yeah, let Reverb know the situation as soon as possible. Just so they're aware. And that you want the deal to go through but you're lost at this point. They can advise..... I hate it when people flake...... sorry.

I’ve had some sellers who either need to wait to ship on the weekend, or are just colossal @&#$%#’s and wait for no reason. But, remember that Reverb doesn’t pay THEM the money until there is a valid tracking number (or delivery if it’s their first time).
so contact Reverb on Monday if you haven’t heard anything. They will contact the seller to get things moving. I’ve had good success with them taking care of post sale issues.

Don't wait to contact reverb, but let them know you do still want the guitar and you don't want a refund YET. They will contact the seller and ask what's up. Since there's no tracking number yet, reverb still has the money - they haven't sent it on to the seller until he supplies a tracking number. Could be a reasonable explanation, but it's certainly concerning!

I'm pretty sure that is only true on the first sale a seller makes, but it's been a few months since I sold anything.

Don't wait too long. I had a super-rare mint guitar that I bought for a killer price and the seller just stopped responding after I paid. I contacted Reverb and told them that I REALLY wanted the guitar not a refund so they tried to contact the seller and after some period of time refunded me since there was no response. I can't prove it, but an identical model showed up for sale from another country for 5X what I paid about two weeks later so I think a dealer snatched it up in an outside deal.

Still true. The seller will not get paid until he provides a tracking # or buys the shipping label via Reverb.

Still, I wouldn't wait to contact Reverb. Although most Reverb buyers are pretty honest and ethical there are still the few outlaws out there.

Good luck.

I know what I was thinking - for the first sale a seller makes they don't get paid until the package is delivered.

Well, probably the holiday weekend thing and also if they're an individual and not a business, may have just left it for a while. When I sold my guitar on Reverb it was at the beginning of corona virus and things were all whacky and there were nibbles and interest at first but then things got quiet and I didn't even pay attention to it for quite a while. I followed an ad someone posted here to Reverb and as soon as I did I saw I had a message, then checked my email to find it was sold. Lucky it had just happened, but if it had happened 4 days earlier I'd not checked my email or gone on Reverb so it would've gone unnoticed for days. Looks like you're getting your guitar soon!!

Of course now you've drummed up all this interest we'll be expecting an NGD and some photos with your impressions, you know??

Yep I’ll definitely have to have a photo shoot with this one. I’m a one guitar man, and if things go well, this will be replacing my ‘67 Martin D12-20.

This is the same guitar:

I believe this ad is from around 2011 - the guitar now has a pickup system (which I plan to remove at some point), and quite a bit more playwear around the soundhole:
