Hi guys -

I am looking at replacing the stock Grover tuners on my '73 S100 and wondering if anyone has any recommendations. These are the ones I am looking at, Grover 18:1 Rotomatics.

Interested in opinions or insight. I assume these will fit the factory holes without any drilling or reaming. The G-string tuner has a little more "slop" than I like and seems to be the one string that goes out of tune. I would love to find some that are "road worn" or have some 40-year patina so they don't look "new" if possible. Or, I don't know, maybe rebuild the original. Anyways, just looking for some recommendations.

Thanks!
Craig

I'd personally use the Grovers to keep it looking original, but...if you want the keystones, just make sure to find out what the gear ratio is...unless I missed it, I don't see it listed on SW's site.

Yeah, good point on the gear ratio - I haven't been able to find a description with specs anywhere. I assume they are the same as the Rotomatics since they are made by/labelled Grover...but are they 18:1 or 14:1? I want 18:1. So yeah, I will probably stick with the ones that at least list specs.

What about the locking Rotomatics? Anyone with experience? I have read some reviews which say the string post is about 0.25" taller, which causes a lower break angle from the nut, which some claim has affected the tone. I would love locking tuners, but don't know how these would work on an S100.
