Since I have the luxury of owning more than one 12-string, I 've had fun experimenting with the sound of my F-112 as a 6-string and now, it's an 8-string.

And let me tell you, boys and girls, I like the sound. :D It's especially sweet for fingerpicking and Ode to Joy sounds really neat.

Next time you change strings on your 12, give it a shot. It also makes tuning/restringing a relative piece of cake. And we all love cake....don't we?

Cheerfully,
Joe

I played my F-212 as a 10 string for a number of years, only single e and b strings. Only problem I had was I didn't check the unused gears and one came off unnoticed. When I wrote to Guild they sent me a replacement (no charge) but it was for the newer (imported) machines that replaced the original '64 ones and both the screw and the gear were different, if I remember (this was back in '68 or '69. I liked the ability to play single string leads on those two strings. When I had two good 12s, I was going to string one with all high strings, but then the second one (Martin D-12-20) was stolen from my son's apartment. I'm sure glad I didn't lend him one of my Guilds, although it might not have been as desirable for his coke-head roommate's friend.
