http://www.guildguitars.com/product-registration/ is still showing this message:

“Product Registration
Our product registration system is currently undergoing maintenance. We'll have it back in service soon, so please keep checking back in with us. Please contact webmaster@guildguitars.com if you have any questions.”

The message has been there, as far as I can tell, from at least March of 2013, when I bought my new Guild.

However, the webmaster does not respond to my request for information on when Product Registration will be back in service.

Should I care?

If Product Registration does come back in service at some point, what would be the benefits of registering my new Guild guitar?

There’s also the question of any deadline for registration: I purchased the guitar new from an authorized Guild dealer in March. Is time running out for me to register the guitar?

I know some of you on this new version of the Let’s Talk Guild forum have the knowledge of and experience with Guild to answer my concerns, so I thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Unfortunately, christoso, this is one of those areas where Guild needs to get their $hit together!! Did you get any kind of mail-in registration card? I know, I know.... what an archaic way to do business. A far cry from Taylor, who not only made registration painless and easy online, but then responded with a confirmation email with specific numbers and email addresses to use for contact should I have any issues. And then like clockwork, I got the next edition of Wood & Steel which is a glossy and expensive looking quarterly publication that Taylor Guitars offers with great articles and feedback and tons of photos and handy tips. I personally think having online registration function down for almost four months is inexcusable. But then again, it's Guild..... so......

I hope you get your questions answered and get to register your guitar. I think it's an important step as far as obtaining warranty work on your new Guild but, I'm not totally sure on that. Just keep your original receipt!! That's a key thing. Good luck!!

Product registration has no effect on the warranty. Guild likes it, though, because they can sell your data to marketers. Warranty claims must be supported by your purchase invoice, so you need to save it. Those things tend to fade, so I scan mine into the computer. Can print out a clean copy any time.

Under American Law, warranties are generally valid and enforceable by the buyer, whether a registration was returned or not. Guild spells out the warranty requirement - purchased new from an authorized dealer - and will require a receipt showing that, should you need warranty service. The registration card just gives Fender demographic data that they can sell to a marketing firm.
