I'm really jonesing for a full-on jazz box, but don't want to trip over any land mines. I'm thinking maybe this one would satisfy my cravings (it sure is pretty!)

Should I be concerned about build quality (or anything else for that matter)? Is the price OK? I just don't want to overpay ridiculously for it. Just looking for a ballpark.

Help me, oh fine LTG cognoscenti, you're my only hope. :)

The current Vintage Guitar price guide gives a range of $2000-2500 for 1980-95 X-500s. I'll let others speak to any condition issues. Not a bargain, but not out of line.

Wow, what a guitar! That seems like a pretty good price and IMO you wouldn't be over paying. You might find one down the road for less but that guitar looks reeeal niiiiice. :) Build quality????!!! :p

Decided to sleep on it, and it was gone when I checked this morning. Always stings a little when that happens.

Eh. Sleep is over-rated anyways.

FYI: I just sold an 84 with a very similar finish, and in excellent condition for $2375, so $2190 is a good price. They do occasionally go for less, but I think that has to do with the timing of when the auction starts and finishes. There is another on ebay currently. It starts at $2000 and has not yet received any bids. It is listed as "RARE", but I am not sure why. I requested more details and will fill you in as soon as I hear.

Don't worry yourself . The heal of the neck on modern 500's is rather large ( the whole neck assem. is from a jumbo acoustic ) and fretting
high-up is difficult because of this unnecessary wood . I've a early sixties ( as well ) and the heal is way smaller and better to play. Get an older
model imho :) The price was good though .......... and the colour excellent too !

I just received a reply from the seller of the above mentioned "RARE" X-500. Apparently, it belonged to her late husband, and it is rare because he took very good care of all of his guitars. The serial number is 135953, which puts it in the middle of 1976 based on Hans' book.
