Folks - let's remember that "repeatable science" and anecdotal evidence are not the same thing and they can simultaneously both be true and contradict each other (especially when statistics are involved). I also ask that folks respond to what was posted and not what they thought was posted. No harm yet but I sense some heat being generated.

On the subject of gluten free beer, there is a local establishment that caters to the medieval. On the beer side of the house they strive for brews that were made by breweries that have existed since the Middle Ages and using recipes that date back that far as well. In order to cover patron's tastes they have to relax that - a porter (style that didn't exist until the 18th century) brewed by an old brewery, for example - but they just admit that the only way they get gluten free beer on their menus is from a modern recipe from a modern brewery.

I usually refer to my mood ring to see if i can or can't eat gluten at any given moment. Gotta go...my pet rock needs to go out for a walk.

Alan
Alan, I KNEW I could count on you!! It's so hot in Vegas right now (How hot is it??) it's too hot to walk your pet rock!! That's how hot it is.....

You are what you eat.
I went gluten free and lost my glutes and felt sorry for myself, until I met a man who coudn't eat nuts.

I don't sense any heat at all....are we reading the same posts?
There's merely a discussion afoot with differing opinions being expressed....heat-free. :confusion:
Joe
I agree but I understand his perception.
Maybe a slight bit of, uh, fervency to a couple of posts?
Myself, truly I'm more concerned about hormones in my meat and pesticides in my nuts.

Maybe frono can clue us all in to exactly what kind of heat-seeking program he's using.
All who contributed to this thread were totally in line with everything this forum is all about. :numbness:

We too cut out as best we could the hormone meat. Also experienced great results. Sorry if this annoys anyone, no doubt it's all in my head.

I saw that comment but didn't respond to it at the time.
I noticed a reduction in my gout episodes when I went to Great Range Buffalo a few years back.
Since then I think other factors have kicked in, they've become less frequent but more severe.
It wouldn't surprise me if your better health was more related to that, than the gluten reduction, if you don't truly have celiac disease.
Another possibility is that there were other substances in the gluten-containing foods that were creating symptoms that were assumed to be gluten related. Pesticides and other processing chemicals come to mind.
Still, I don't dispute your experience, something must be working for you. And Joe.

I think he sees a sourdough starter gently fermenting and wants to make sure it doesn't achieve a raging boil.

Strongly agree, Joe. We're all adults here, aren't we? You can eat any diet you want. And you can tell me about it. And I can disagree with you. And you can disagree with me. And in the end... it doesn't really matter. My opinion is still my opinion. And yours is still yours.

Mainly, what strings do you to use to compensate for gluten... or lactose?

I mean, really?

I'm stringing up the D65S with John Pearse Silk and Steel this weekend. Wish me luck, because if I don't like 'em .... they're coming OFF!!

Kisses....

Personally I take strong offense to toms assertion that we're all adults here. Ill arm wrestle anyone who feels contrary to my feelings.

Frono...shouldn't we have a gluten free section in the forum?

Personally I don't have strong opinions about gluten either way, but

Just gonna throw out my OPINION here.... the SECOND study was more in depth and found that, unless you have Celiac Disease, that gluten intolerance is a bunch of hooey!

might be overstating things a bit.

What both the Forbes article and the study do say is that this experiment could not confirm that gluten intolerance exists.

Other interesting things from the same article:
A low-gluten diet appears to be healthy, but probably for other reasons than the gluten itself.
The placebo/nocebo effect is real. Not that I ever doubted that. Bridge pins, anyone?

I believe that the key to a healthy diet is variation. I'm happy to drink almost any kind of beer.

Well, we cut out more than gluten for sure, definitely could be a lot of factors. Whatever it is, I am just glad my kids allergies have way subsided. And we aren't perfect with it either, we take a reasonable approach.
