The full story dredged up from the CBC's archives:

Cases don't help where there is determination on the part of the airline employees. An acquaintance with a pricey Ramirez in an equaly pricey case, which was supposed to be able to withstand a semi being driven over it, had his Ranirez and case reduced to toothpicks. He go something like the equivalent of 50 Dutch Gilders in compensation.

Doyle Dykes told us that he always flies with hard cases, checked, and an exterior soft case around those. Thermal insulation like that is probably a good idea in a luggage compartment.

Last time I flew, two people had gig bags and put their gits in the overhead storage compartments. I'm not sure I could get comfortable with that.

The essence of my situation is that I hold my instruments in high regard. So, I have trouble placing a lower value on my $50 flea market Yamaha than I do on my D40. I know that doesn't make sense but what can I say. So I've set a price limit of $100 for a soft case for El kabong. If anything happens my loss will be more emotional than financial. So be it.:confusion:
