A former colleague from Germany (Michael Stirm) does incredible cut-away illustrations as a hobby and for various pubications. He does these by hand - no computers are used. Not sure how many people are doing these anymore, but it's fun to see someone keeping the flame lit on an art form that will soon be lost to time. He spent the bulk of his career with Black & Decker (DeWalt) in Idstein - near Frankfort. Great designer and an even more gracious host on those occasions I was able to visit him there. Like me, he is now retired, but his hands never stop. His subject vary widely, but his automotive pieces are really incredible.

I used to call my old Bourgeois JOM the "Birdcage Maserati" because it was so light, and the incredibly thin bracing inside reminded me a lot of the car. Here's a guitar that I never should have sold, but at least it's living with a friend.

Incredible is right. Wow! That is a skill (yet one more) I admire, but do not possess.

Selling a beloved guitar to a friend (so you can check in on it from time to time) is yet another skill I admire, but do not possess.

Ha! it's even more beloved when they agree to sell it back to you after you realize that you'll probably never be able to find another one like it. Turns out that cedar over mahogany JOMs are about as rare as Orpheum OM 14 fret mahoganies. Who knew?

At least my buddy Chris sold my old D25-12 back to me!

Nearly unbelievable skill.

I had a friend like that in the 80's, a graphic artist, could drawn anything, lots of work from local papers. Insane to watch him draw, not outlining anything, just start in one spot and draw anything technical to the level of a photograph.

He was also a fabulous drummer in our band he named Quantum of Solace.
