Dave is no longer a rocker, he's more like a twitchy cabaret act. Not an album I will buy, but the band behind him stills rocks...

Maye Eddie got a good deal on that guitar at a yard sale!

Ah! Nothing like a Starfire through an AC30...turned up

Several years ago had tickets to see Dave Davies at a local club, but got canceled as he had a serious stroke. Beleive he is ok now, but do not know if he is performing.

And alas, poor Pete Quaife passed on not that long ago.

I looked at several versions, as I knew I'd seen it on the tub with a Guild, & wanted an actual live, not lip synced version, with decent sound. I loves the sound! I believe Dave may have been the first metal guitarist( ); predated Keith & others with the distorted lead sound. Not Link Wray, of course.

Here's a jazzed up version

It will take a bit to load. The group was Boy Howdy. Larry and Cary Park on guitar, Hugh Wright on drums. Larry and Hugh have been part of our store in Great Falls the last few years.
I think this may now be my second favorite version of this song!

When Guitar Magazine did their "Worlds Fifty Fastest Guitarist" that's the song that got Larry and Cary there. Hugh keeping the drum beat going at that BPM is mind boggling to me.

Sure was speedy, but, unlike later Kinks versions from the 70's, still worked at high speed. I was really disappointed to find on the Tub that "Lola" era versions were faster, and were ineffective at those speeds. Had to stick with the 60's!

It's hard to fit in much expression at that kind of speed. Not that I'll ever have that problem.

Know what you mean. Odd, though that the Boy Howdy's could pull it off, but the originating Kinks flubbed it when they sped it up!

You should hear Larry's version of Buc's Polka. Phenomenal speed with impeccable timing. I've heard him play it live a hundred times but never got it on tape. He work's a lot with Chris Hilman. Cary does a lot of studio session work.
