I'm trying to help a pal out who's found an old Guild archtop selling on consignment. I have a copy of Hans' book but can't find a reference to it. The number is LO 233. It is single cut with what appears to be a pair of HB1 humbuckers. Toggle switch on the top bout, a good 4'' thick body An X500?

Any help will be appreciated. Sorry there are no pics.

What does it say on the label visible through the top F hole?

Hello Stratosphyncter,

Welcome! The photo you posted doesn't give me all the information I would like to see but together with the information you posted about the thickness of the body ( 4 inch) and the serial number LO 233, I'm guessing we're looking at a Guild X-175 with serial # 40233. If I have the serial number correct, that would make it a Guild X-175 from 1964.

Of course # EG-233 would be possible as well, but I was trying to come up with a reason why the first two digits looked like LO. If it's # EG-233 it would be an X-175 from the end of 1967, which would explain the binding around the f-holes.

Maybe you should take a look at the label and the back of the headstock to see if model designation X-175 and serial # 40233 would make sense.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
