Anyone with a Nightbird with f-holes, or a Nightingale with f-holes? I'd love to find out more about them, I must admit I did not even know they existed until krysh posted this link on another thread:

What a great looking guitar! And I'm assuming it would be pretty light, too. Any information would be welcome and very interesting!

The Nightingale is one of my dream guitars. Krysh has one. What struck me on that site were the "Nightbird Specials" with f-holes-I never knew about those.

Does Vintagemaster ever sell anything?
Perhaps, like some denizens of the Interzone as described in Burroughs' "Naked Lunch", they're merely a front for a group of psychic vampires who feed telepathically on our naked lust for the guitars displayed there.
If they actually sold anything they'd soon be out of bait.

Thanks for the pix, Grot! Those diamond inlays are my favorite, that is one cool guitar!

I'm guessing if I ever saw one for sale, it would be beyond my budget, but right now I'm with zulu, that is a dream guitar.

It has been a few years since I was on the VintageMaster web site and I was suprised by how many guitars have been sold.It looked like close to half of his inventory from a few years back have been sold.

Also I noticed some have had a significant price reduction. Case in point are the two custom solidbodys that look kind of like Liberators. They used to have list prices around $4000.

Holy crap! He's asking $3900 for an X-170?!?!?!?

And I sold a mint blonde X-170 a while back for $1285...what was I thinking? The economy in Switzerland must be very good if they can sell guitars at their prices. Perhaps they will buy my 1966 X-175 for $4000? They can re-list it for $5000 and make a 25% profit, and I will do well also. It's a win-win!

Walter, Does he ever come down on his prices?
No idea, never talked to him. A friend of mine got a 50's Bluesbird from him a long time ago, for a price that would be considered very, very good today. Another friend got a "rare as hen's teeth" CE100 with two factory DeArmonds from him, but I don't know what he paid.

Hans and Grot, love those Nightingale photos!

So, any info on what they're calling a Nightbird Special?

Or is this a Nightingale without the pickguard?

I'm just going to throw a guess out there since I don't know any real information at all.

Maybe somebody figured that since the Nightbird was chambered, how cool would it be it you were to cut some "F" holes through the top on one. Hence, the Nightbird Special.

Then they took a good look at it and said; "You know, it really looks a lot more like a jazz guitar now, maybe we should put a traditional pickguard on it."

Then they relized it was more then "special" and that it should have it's own name. "Hmm, we need something that plays off of Nightbird, What other kind of bird has night is it's name?" (runs to dictionary), "I've got it!" "A Nightingale!"

And off to market they went!

(Stay tuned for Volume II to see how close I am! )
