I think those were Gotoh waffle-backs that Guild was using for a little while there in the late '80s. Those Kluson waffle-backs you can buy have press-in bushings, so you'd need to get some conversion bushings to accommodate the larger holes in your headstock (and I'd expect some visible indentation to remain visible from the larger washers on the Gotohs)

What's up with the bridge angle -- is it really that much taller on the treble strings than the bass side? Seems backwards. I like the color on your new guitar better than the R9 -- the mahogany side of it is much prettier than the red that winds up on most of the Gibson reissues.

I took the pics with the guitar right out of the box. It buzzes like nobody's business as-is and I need to put it through a complete setup.

After playing with it a fair bit, some things have become clear.

This guitar, though well cared for, was played a LOT. It's in need of a fret job if not a complete refret with some of the worst G-string wear I've ever seen. I think the previous owner was a blue-note bending FOOL! Who possibly played with rusty strings.

In a similar vein, the ebony is worn pretty deeply in a couple of spots, though this doesn't seem to affect playing. The frets, though, are bad enough that I notice it. With the exception of the gold wear on the tuners and the fret and fretboard wear, you'd think this was a new guitar. There's some slight worming on the back, but it's clear that the owner never played with a belt buckle or abused the guitar aside from just playing it.
