Saw this for a good price and nabbed it. Advertised as a '74. There is some significant finish damage, but it's structurally intact, the electronics are great, it plays great and sounds even better. Of course, the neck is pretty damn small so we'll see if it stays in the keeper pile, but I can see why people dig these.

Here's a pic of it in the case where you can see the worst of the damage. Best we can figure some bonehead rested a cigarrette on it while the guitar was laying flat? Repeatedly? The guitar does not smell, and I have a VERY sensitive nose, but it sure does look like repeated melt marks.

I got this guitar for under $1000, which is less than the NS models seem to be selling for, so I'm not crushed about the blems. Hell, my 1997 Bluesbird is a bit rough around the edges and since my other guitars are all so well taken care of, it's refreshing to have a couple that don't need to be babied. :single_eye:

I'll take some nicer pics. My plan is to use it in a three-way Bluesbird bakeoff. After that I figure I could likely sell it for what I paid or maybe have it refinished since none of the problems areas show damage into the wood. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if a master could fix the existing issues without a full refin.

I'm about hip-deep in Guilds over here. Might need to purge some more. :joyous:

Hello GAD,

Those markings may be caused by one of those cheap coiled guitar cables from the '70s. They can eat into the finish if you leave one in the case on top of the guitar for a longer period of time!

Sincerely,

If it turns out to be a great player I'd just add some dings, dents & scrapes to draw your attention away from the coiled cable marks. (I've seen those before.) :)

The neck is small, as expected, but it sounds so damn good.

Cool guitar. I played one like that a couple months ago. The sound kicked my Bluesbird's Arse. Really. And I like my Bird. A lot.

Yeah all Bluesbirds should have HB1s IMO.
