A couple of notes after playing it for a bit. It definitely has that tight punch and decay hat I normally associate with laminates. This guitar seems to have a fun edge of breakup sound even unplugged when I dig into a chord slightly. Kinda cool. That same thing carries over into the amp. Definitely adds interest to the sound. The pickups are fairly bright but serviceable. Some quick EQ and I am in a happy place.

Very Nice! Looks to be in great shape as well. Beautiful Burst on this one. Looks like Christmas came early for someone. Enjoy it and play it in good health. I think the 70's X500's are some of the most under rated Guilds out there. I haven't heard a bad on yet. Congrats and Happy Holidays!

Beautiful guitar and I like the way you describe its sound. I could almost hear it as I was looking at the pics.

Indeed, I have always heard wonderful things about them. Finding one that was made the same year that my wife was born just made it a no brainer. I made it happen. :)

It is definitely a fun sound. I will likely be going down a gauge to 12's from the 13's that are on it but is otherwise right about where I like it. :)

The subtle flame on the back and sides I really dig. :D

Thanks! I can't see changing anything about it. :D

Other observations that I am sure will come as no shock to those with these guitars:

Definitely has a noticeable weight. I mean this as compared to some other archtops I have. It isn't unbearable or anything. Just heavier. Some minor binding cracks at the fretboard. Acoustic tone is very thick. Plugged in, I have to dial the amp in darker to get where I want but... some amp dialing I think is always required going from amp to amp.

That light 'garble' when I chords with moderate force is very awesome. That might sound like an undesirable characteristic but I really like it. It really fattens up the chords. :)
