Bumping around (you know how we do :)), and I came across this article about some New York City guitar stores. Not being from New York, I hope that Sandy (twocorgis) and others let us know some of their favorite haunts. After all, New York City is the birthplace of Guild Guitars. 8) I enjoyed the article and the hint of nostalgia of 'remembering the good ole days.' And now, I know a few places to visit when I'm in the Big Apple.

Soooooo, does that mean you're coming for a visit?

It's interesting that you posted a picture of Manny's on West 48th Street. That place (no longer in business) was easily my least favorite shop in NYC. The staff were the most arrogant people that I've ever met under one roof, unless of course you were a rock star. Manny's got taken over by Sam Ash sometime in the '90s IIRC, and they mercifully let Manny's die the ignominious death that they deserved. When it comes to guitar shops in the five boroughs, here's my top five:

1. Southside in Williamsburg Brooklyn. The owner's a Guild head; enough said.
2. Rudy's SoHo location; if for no other reason than the incredible and priceless collection of D'Angelicos there.
3. Mandolin Brothers on Staten Island. The owner's a bit full of himself, but there are more cool and expensive guitars than you can find anywhere under one roof.
4. Matt Umanov in Greenwich Village. Not the best, but Guilds on the wall, and the best location. I LOVE the West Village. 8)
5. Rudy's West 48th Street location. Not as cool as their SoHo location, but it is next door to Carlo Greco's old digs at Alex's Accordions.

If you'd like a tour, I'd be more than happy to oblige. :D
