well--i pulled the trigger. needing a replacement for my old (1981) Martin D-18 which suffered a fatal collision with a piece of furniture, i was at my local guitar tech's place, looking at another D-18, when he brought out this DV-6. lust at first sight. after playing on it for almost an hour lust became love.
near as i can tell from the serial number (AD061440), its a '96, Westerly.
for what was left of old marty, & another $600. he swapped the pickup, & put on a set of openback grovers --i wanted the grovers instead of the gold, but thats just me.
my wife loves the herringbone, im in love with the grain (lots of silking), we both love the tones.
Now i remember why i loved Guilds (before i bought old marty, that is)
My Gosh, what a Guitar.

David,

The Westerly DV6 is one of those guitars I'd love to own. They've always been very special to me. I hope you enjoy her for many years. If you get a chance, post a few shots, I'd love to gawk at her.

 thank you
my gosh thats funny--
i was here before when a GAD 30 & GAD f212 owned me, but they had to go for hardship reasons.
old big dawg was all i had left (as a player--still got old dawg: '30 Martin 2-17)
gotta get pictures so i can post them; real proud of this baby.
is there anything i need to know about this vintage/breed?

oh actually, long story but a couch was dropped on it. punched a hole in the face & destroyed the back
i was crying for days. glad the responsible party stepped up & paid for it.

Hello kdavid,

These are great guitars but you figured that out already!

By the way, do you have a HR ( hand rub) or a HG ( high gloss) version?

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Model # is: DV6-NT HG, so im guessing High Gloss? i thought the HG meant something about the herringbone

This isn't super detailed, but here goes . . .

The DV4 and the DV25 are the same guitar except that the DV25 has a gloss finish and a black headstock overlay with white letters, vs the no overlay/silkscreened logo on the DV4. As far as construction goes, both are lightly built, solid "A" spruce top with solid mahogany back and sides. Bracing is straight X. The soundhole rosette is a simple black and white.

The DV6 has a "AA" spruce top (and in some cases a cedar top) with solid mahogany back and sides. The bracing is shaved. The appointments are much nicer.

The DV52 is pretty similar to the DV6, but with rosewood back and sides.

I like the series as a whole. And while I long for DV6, I don't think I'd give up my DV4 to get one. I really like it - it's light, pretty loud, and pretty even all around.

Thank you, Plaidseason. I do believe that this (for me) just seems to be a much nicer, more even sounding guitar than the D-18 that it replaced; & i truely loved that guitar.

In my opinion the Westerly DV6 is the great "hidden gem" of the Guild line.

Nice Guild David. I rescued a 94 DV-52 from a pawnshop earlier this year and I'm like you , I can't put it down. Check out my pics from my DV-52 post and you'll notice the resemblance to yours......slow944s
