Dear Guild-community and friends;

reading your votes - after an intermission for some month - I noticed that the factory of the new Guilds on the East coast of the U.S. get started and sales abviously, too.

However going through the specifications I realized, that D'Addario, EXP 17, .13 to.56 strings are "recommended" whereas formerly the Guild strings .12 to .53 was.

Personally I always have liked the D'Addario strings, EXP 16 (.12-.53) I tried the Gibson masterbild, .12 - .052, which gave a great sound to my Guild, a JF 65 model.

How are your experiences? - Do you adjust truss rod after changing weight of strings??

Thanks for reading - thanks for reply!!
Jan-Peter

P.S. TRying to get some Flamenco rhythms on my JF 65 for a concert with dancers for my wife.

I second that... except I sub in an .025 G string to duplicate the exact specs of the original (1996) Guild L350's. Use 'em on my D40 'cause I'm saving the 2 sets of original Guilds I still have for the D25. Covered extensively in the "What strings do you use on your Guild" and "Guitar string gauges"" threads, but Cuthbert states he believes Guild used D'addario as a source back in the Westerly period. I think that's corroborated by the fact that they're the only manufacturer I can find that actually offers an .025...
Surprised they're upping the gauge. Really it's just a pretty standard medium range but they're coated.. Pretty good consensus around here that t-rod adjustment is not normally neccessary to move up a notch in gauges for your vintage of guitar, but of course each one has its own little individual needs...

MY 75 F50R came with Guild 13-56 so I keeped them on till she was 30 years old and started using lighter. She came back from FIMC with D'Addarios, Don't know what guage but I put some JP 13-56 on not after viewing LTG. The JP's were super the first few days. I liked the D's just fine but I'll try some 12s next time. Still searching.

Yes, it appears as if the new factory is shipping out Medium gauge strings on the new 6 string D and F series Guilds. If I remember correctly, the old Guild catalogs from the Westerly days showed light gauge strings being used.

If the new guitars were designed to take mediums, thats great. It should result in higher volume and a more solid low end.

Now if your guitar was originally set up for light strings and you want to start using mediums, I would recommend getting it set up for it. Higher tension may result in more relief on the fretboard (and a possible top bellying) which would lead to higher action almost all-around.

When I was a dealer (1977-1988) most of the flat-tops shipped with Guild M-450 Phosphor Bronze strings. They were actaully D'Addario J-17, the medium gauge (13) set, packed and labeled at D'Addario for Guild. Still my favorite acoustic guitar string.
