Interesting! That's a little bit "low tech" compared to this: http://www.letstalkguild.com/ltg/sh...Your-Own-Amp-You-know-you-ve-always-wanted-to-!

I have been wanting to build a champ forever! I'm scared off by the high voltage, but the circuit really isn't that complex. I'm planning to add a tube preamp eventually to the amp I am building and using the same LM386 chip as the power amp. If anyone is interested the circuit is available at www.beavisaudio.com.

Hello MCM one tip on amp building - Do a youtube search on miniamp 2.0 The guy has 2 amps to build one 2 and one 3 valve. I built the 2.0 last year and its amazing. Its only 2 watt but really pokes out through a 10 inch speaker and sounds fantastic with my 67 bluesbird. If you are interested I'll post a video. Cheers David

There is one locally for sale for about $800 more than you paid for yours....I'm not a huge electric fan but once the Guild bug gets ya.

I like the different headstock on this...

I am so glad you got such a great deal at the Goodwill store...I've been fortunate recently as well

The pictures you included are so small, hard to see anything...But that looks like X-79 Skyhawk. (EDIT: It's not a X-79...)
Can you maybe post larger pictures?

I don't know Ralf, it looks like an X-80 to me!

It's the first one I've ever seen with the "body matching" shape headstock. Also looks like a maple neck!

Hey "Dad" can you post a link????

The maple neck confused me as well, but it doesn't look like a bold on neck or so. I just assumed due to the headstock shape it is a X-79. But the X-79 headstock and body shape have the exactly mirrored shape to the X-80, so you are right, it can't be a X-79 but a X-80! Here's a X-79 to compare:

And here is what the author claims to be a X-80 with that headstock: http://www.guitar-museum.com/guitar-18916-1983-Guild-X-80-Project

By the way just as a note since we're discussing X-80's. At LMG IV Mark Dronge was paging through my GoG Yearbook and when he came upon my X-80 he said; "That was my idea, I thought the X-79 looked better flipped over!"

MCM1910, that is an amazing find. Guitars with bodies like that usually don't appeal to me, but now ever time I go to a Goodwill, I am going to look for one. You really struck gold with that find. How did it sound amplified?

The OP flipped it on eBay not long after he started this thread. I had been repeatedly messaging and emailing him here about it, but he ignored me. I think he got $450 or so, which I would have paid. Been looking for a clean X-80 with the original headstock for ages. Kinda bummed about it.

I just picked up one that is very similar to yours. I've got a 1983, the headstock on mine matches the body color. The p/u in the one I have are Dimarzios, chrome speed knobs. Looks like we both have that same color guitar. Sweet guitar
