Hi, I was referred here by a friend from a different forum. I am in the process of re-necking, and re-topping my 1982 Guild D15M and this sure looks like a great place for some info.

Wrenching the neck off the body was like trying to tear a bone away from a bull terrier! Guild sure does use a lot of glue on their necks. Most I've ever seen.

Anyway, I'll start a thread with some photos soon and show the progress of the project.

From another newbie, welcome. Removing tops and wrenching necks off sounds pretty scary. Way, way beyond my modest luthier skills. Looking forward to pics and updates.

Hey, new guy.
Welcome to the fold and best of luck with your project. You'll get lots of help/advice here, and then some. It will be your mission to decipher what's valid and what's not-so-thinly veiled humor (or 'humour' for our Canadian brethren).

Beware the GAS,
Joe

Welcome and good luck with the D-15M. You’re going to love it when it’s done. I’ll be very interested is seeing the progress, and will be looking forward to your post. I’m trying my hand at my first major guitar repair on a cheep mahogany 12 string just to get my feet wet. Broken truss rod, loose and misaligned bridge, shot bridge pad, improperly installed top bracing, the machine heads are ether froze or falling apart, and plenty of dings, dents, and scratches. But other then that she’s cherry!

Dane,

Something spooky going on here. Not only do our avatars turn a few heads, but we seem to be into similar project guitars.
I have a 70s Harmony 12-string that has a loose truss rod, bridge/saddle/nut/tuning peg issues, but is otherwise "mint."

It's about the size of the F-112 that should be here any day now :!: and I'm sure it's going to be a sweet little 12'er when I finish working on it (wannabe luthier that I am).

Dane and killdeer, the headstock on my new neck has the same inlay as the guitars in your avatars. Can I change my avatar too once I finish this project?!

I am giving some thought to making this a 25 1/2" scale. I know the layout will put the 13th fret (or so) right at the body joint, and I may have to slash a fret or to so I don't overhang the sound hole, but hey, everyone knows all the money is made below the 12th fret anyway! LOL!
