There was a post here on LTG somewhere recently that talked about the S-200 in the Detroit area that had obviously been in an abusive relationship. I can't seem to find it (never did figure out how to search for something like that on LTG) or I would have continued there.

So anyway, although I refuse to go to Detroit anymore (who'd go there willingly??) the guy is heading up to my neck of the woods this weekend. Now, let's be clear, I don't have a lot of love for electrics period although I sure did back in the day. They just don't work for me anymore.

However, I'm gonna buy this beast anyway and then sink some money into it to try and get it looking and sounding presentable again. I absolutely know that when I'm through I'll have way more into it than I will ever get out. But, I think this old girl has paid her dues and just needs a chance to live out the rest of her life not being ashamed of her ugliness.

I'm sure I'll be back again asking numerous questions from those of you who have the knowledge but my very first question is this; Can anyone tell me the colors that were used in production for the S-200? The guy claims it's a '64 but I won't really know until I get my hands on it.

As always, any and all help appreciated.

Peg head crack is no big deal. A reissue Hagstroms handle could be a possible replacement. If it's latex housepaint, that should come of easily. Looks like a worthy project!

Jeez, Detroit-o-phobia is so unwarranted. I'm there at least a couple times per week. It's a city. Some parts of it can be rough. Most of it is just people living their normal lives. Same with NYC or Chicago or etc.

Anyway, the S-200 is a wacky-looking guitar that can sound pretty darn good. Have fun with yours!

Well, of course you are correct.. Most of the Detroit area is in fact really nice. I lived in the area for years. My statement was partly tongue-in-cheek and probably mostly that I don't like, and in fact feel real uncomfortable in, any town over about 2,000 people. It's why I live where I do.

Hey there S 100. Yup, I really will. I'm going to tell my Luthier to take his time because I fear the restoration cost is going to be hefty. But, I'll weigh in every once in a while and let ya'll know how it's coming along.
